Artwork by Georgia O’Keeffe – Έργα Τέχνης

Sharing is caring!

My living room has been going through a transformation of sorts since I started this blog. It once had lots of burgundy and gold but for a while now I’ve been making the change over to more neutral colors. For Christmas, I had glued Christmas cards onto a kraft paper bag  background and used it for artwork.  But now that Christmas is long gone it’s time for a change with the help of Georgia O’Keeffe .

I have changed out the prints inside the frames and added these which are a lot more neutral. My living room is beige and black so this works perfectly.

I found lots of beautiful artwork in this old book I had of Georgia O’Keeffe. It had originally been given to me as a gift but had seen better days.  And why keep it hidden on a shelf when instead I could display the prints?

Μου το είχαν δώσει ως δώρο, αλλά είχε δει καλύτερες μέρες. Και γιατί να το κρατήσω κρυμμένο σε ένα ράφι, αφού, θα μπορούσα να τα εκθέσω;

Once I picked out a few prints that I liked I simply cut the edges diagonally.

I flipped it over and folded it inward like this.

Here you can see that by folding it back it creates dimension and the edges are also much more crisp.

I removed the old christmas cards and placed Georgia’s artwork in the center of the brown paper.

I like how the prints match perfectly with the frames, and the black and white make the prints pop.  To the right you can see my daughter’s painting of the galaxy.

My other daughter who is a big fan of blue, found some prints in the book and had me add them to a few frames for her  room.  You have to admit Georgia has a way with colors.

And because I’m a proud mama, I’m going to add a short video of  the galaxy painting.

Well, that was a very easy way to change up my artwork.  And the best part, because I’ve got a book full of Artwork by Georgia O’Keefe, I can  transform my wall any time I feel like it  by using different colored prints as accent colors.

Love your Georgia O'Keefe prints and The Galaxy. Recently had my bathroom painted and rehung a bunch of my Monets today (GW, yard sales, and Wal-Mart!). Rearranged them as painter filled in all the nails holes and like the new look. Sometimes it only takes a few little things to perk up a room (my mother always put up summer curtains and summer seatcovers!). You encouraged me NOT to feel guilty about cutting up some art books I have that have lovely pictures; you are absolutely right; art should be enjoyed, not left between pages of a book; thank you for this insight!

Kathy I am so happy to hear that. I just went down to the Strand bookstore here in NY. They have thousands of books outside the store and sell them for $2. I got two books one that has photography and and the other Impressionistic paintings so you can guess that I'll be cutting that up sometime soon to turn into a project.

Mary, well it's clear that the creative gene runs strong in your family. I really enjoyed seeing the process your daughter went through to create her painting. And that GIF at the end...Did she do that too? What a great way to repurpose a book filled with lovely pictures. Georgia O'Keefe truly did have a way with color, but given the neutral shells you chose, she was just flat out a gifted artist. Thanks for sharing your redecorating process. Wishing you a lovely day, Lynn

Thank you Lynn for all your sweet words. I try to encourage my little one to follow her dream and dream big at that. Because I know that's the only way we can be content in life. Thank you for all your wonderful comments.

I really like Georgia O'Keefe work. I lived in NM for twenty years and of course, she is a favorite there. The pictures you choose looks great in those frames. I also like the Galaxy - its beautiful.

I'm really trying to tone down the room so I use a lot of black and white, and hope fully in the summer I'll be able to paint the walls. Georgia's book is full of rich tones that reflect the NM desert, beautiful.

Mary, you know how much I like changing out my art on the walls, so this is right up my alley! I love the simplicity of those prints and the neutral colours as well! Your daughters choices in blue are quite amazing as well! It's nice to change things up with little effort, isn't it!?

That is really the best Katrin, easy decorating that makes a difference.I had that book tucked away for years and it was just collecting dust. I'm so glad I rediscovered it.

Mary, I love your new artwork!!! Georgia ans your daughter give your living room such a beautiful look!!! Framing pages is so easy and fun, not to mention inexpensive!! I did this with a children's book by Stevenson for my kids' room a few years ago. I love keeping my eyes peeled for books begging to be framed. ;) Btw, your daughter's painting is awesome sauce!!!

Keri thanks for the awesome compliment, I'll definitely tell my girl. I too love to look through my bookcase to come up with simple and inexpensive ideas.
