Breakfast in Greece – Int’l Bloggers Club Challenge

Sharing is caring!

Today I have something special for you.  I am  taking  part in a Group Challenge with the International Bloggers Club.  We are a group of four friends who will be coming together each month for a themed post on how we do things in our corner of the world. This months theme is Breakfast.

Keri: I’m a wife, mom, and blogger.  I love repurposing and refinishing whatever junk comes my way. I grew up in Illinois, but am currently living in Missouri with my beautiful family.

Pili: My name is Pili, and I am passionate about crafts and everything related to creating things with my own hands. I live in Mallorca where we enjoy raising our three wonderful kids and where we have warm weather most of the year, which is a must for me!

Katrin: I’m a former kindergarten teacher, now SAHM of two girls. DIY & Decorating is my passion, I was born in Germany, moved to Canada for a few years and currently live in the beautiful South of Spain (Andalucia).

Mary:

I am a wife and mom of four who loves to recycle and repurpose. I use my creativity to spark life into old things. As a New Yorker who has been living in Greece for years now I also like to photograph my boondocks.

In Greece we don’t usually have breakfast until a few hours after waking up.  Greeks get up,and rush off to school or work with the kids usually drinking a glass of hot milk before heading out the door.  Once at their  destination they will buy a  cheese pie, spinach pie  or as in the picture below a zuccini pie and eat it during the morning.  But never early.  A typical breakfast for those who stay home would be some bread with  honey or marmalade.

Having said all that I have to tell you that I’m not a typical Greek.  My family and I enjoy having a hearty breakfast to get the day off to a good start.  Mornings in our house start off with fresh brewed greek coffee.  It is made in an old copper pot called a “Briki”.   I usually drink it double with milk and a  tiny bit of sugar.

Once the coffee is on the pot, we gather vegetables together and slice them up.

Add them to a frying pan, with a bit of water on the bottom and add olive oil on top.  Cover them  and let them cook for about 20 minutes.

Add cheese, either gouda or feta and let it melt for a few minutes.

And since Valentine’s Day is around the corner why not make it a special breakfast?

Και επειδή  η Ημέρα του Αγίου Βαλεντίνου είναι κοντά, γιατί να μην το κανουμε  ένα  ξεχωριστό  πρωινό;

A little bread to add to the heartiness of the meal. We Greeks do not eat a meal without bread!

I have to have a full breakfast every morning in order to face the hard work of blogging every day. And just to keep it real, I never set the table like this for breakfast, but it would not be a bad idea for Valentine’s day.  I hope you all enjoyed my take on “Breakfast in Greece”.  Now head on over to the other bloggers who are linked below to see how  they do breakfast in other parts of the world.

Π

I would love to try any of that vegetable pies right now, but I would eat a whole dish of your delicious vegetable mix. That cheese on top is yelling eat me! The green herb on top, is it dill? Even if you are out of your comfort zone with food, your pictures are amazing and really appealing, I think you can share more

The coffee is on the pot and waiting for you. We try to eat very little for dinner since we eat so much in the morning. We don't need to have a heart attack with all this food. Hahaha!

Oh my gosh! That looks delicious. I am not a big breakfast person but I do think breakfast is important. Those pies also sound good.

Krista, we need energy to get moving in the morning. But dinner is usually very sparse at my house, so we can sleep without heartburn. lol

Mary, That is something I could eat any time of the day. It looks absolutely delicious and so easy to make. And I would love a sip of the coffee.

That's the secret Debra, so easy to make, just chop and cook. We usually eat it around 9 am, not too early since I don't have little ones to tend to. The coffee is freshly ground so when we bring it home the whole house smells yummy.
