How to translate text into Greek - πώς να μεταφράσετε κείμενα στα ελληνικά

Sharing is caring!

I have been very lucky to have grown since starting the blog and I thank you all for this. However with all this growth I have accumulated many more responsιbilitιes.  As I’ve mentioned before, running a blog is not as easy as it seems. In order for me to bring you quality posts with decent photos I have to spend hours working on these aspects of the blog.  And I think it is worth it because no one will show up if the photography is bad, or if I cannot create with a decent project.  And let’s not get into the promotional aspect of blogging which takes up much more time than I ever imagined.

Today I have an announcement for my Greek viewers.  It is with great sadness that I must discontinue the translations that I have been doing of my posts this past year. I know that there are not many of you who read my broken greek and maybe get a good laugh out of it (I sure do).  But I feel it is my responsibility to offer you some alternatives. Τhe top three browsers  you are using are Chrome, Safari and Mozilla.  As a token of my appreciation I’d like to show  you how to translate text into Greek using these three browsers.

Chrome Browser

Chrome should already have a translator on the top as you can see below.

Το Chrome θα πρέπει να έχει ήδη έναν μεταφραστή στην κορυφή, όπως μπορείτε να δείτε παρακάτω.

Chrome Browser 1, How to translate text into greek www.theboondocksblog.com
Simply select the language you want it to translate to and check the box on the bottom. Press Translate.

Απλά επιλέξτε σε πια γλώσσα θέλετε να μεταφράσετε (Ελληνικά)  και επιλέξτε το κουτί στο κάτω μέρος που λέει “Πάντα Μετάφραση”. Πατήστε Μετάφραση.

Chrome Browser 2, PictureHow to translate text into greek www.theboondocksblog.com
And you have a translation.  It may not be perfect but it is certainly no worse than what I have been giving you all this time.

Και έχετε μια μετάφραση. Μπορεί να μην είναι τέλεια, αλλά ι σίγουρα δεν είναι χειρότερη από ό, τι  σας εδινα όλο αυτό το διάστημα.

Safari Browser

I don’t have a Safari so my experience is limited here, but this is the most popular translator. I found this one here.

Δεν έχω Safari,  έτσι η εμπειρία μου περιορίζεται εδώ, αλλά αυτό είναι ο πιο δημοφιλές μεταφραστής. Το  βρήκα  εδώ.

Mozilla Browser

The add-on for Mozilla is located here.

Το πρόσθετο για το Mozilla βρίσκεται εδώ.

Once it is installed you will be able to access it from the toolbar.  From there you can choose the language you want.

Μόλις εγκατασταθεί, θα έχετε πρόσβαση από τη γραμμή εργαλείων. Από εκεί μπορείτε να επιλέξετε τη γλώσσα που θέλετε.

Below you can see that it is showing it has translated to Greek.

Παρακάτω μπορείτε να δείτε ότι δείχνει ότι έχει μεταφραστεί στα ελληνικά.

These are three ways I have been able to show you how to translate. I am really sad that I cannot continue with my  broken Greek translating but I  think I may actually be doing you all a favor. I think it’s more important that I concentrate on bringing you the best quality possible, and we will leave the translations up to the experts. I hope that my photos will be clear enough to explain things so that the writing will be secondary. Thank you all for your time and I hope you will continue to support me.

I will be adding this post to my sidebar for easy access.

Θα προστεθεί αυτή η ανάρτηση στο πλάγιο μενού μου για εύκολη πρόσβαση.

Hi Mary, I appreciate how difficult and time consuming it is to translate every paragraph of your posts. The same applies to me and this is the reason most of my posts are in Greek only, although from time to time, I include an English translation. The reason is that the automatic electronic translations are unfortunately really very very bad!!! Sometimes I feel my overseas blog-friends must get very confused when they read my translated posts. I certainly am lucky enough not to need any translation of your posts, and I understand your decision, but...I have to disagree with you on the quality of your translation!!! I find it much more correct than the automatic ones!!! and I am sure other Greek bloggers will agree with me...lol !!!! I wish you a lovely new month!!!

You understand me better than anyone Marie-Anne. There is so much involved in running a blog, the least of which is what the viewers get to see. I want to be able to provide quality posts without having to run myself ragged. If nothing else, I would like to spend more time with my projects and my paint brushes then in front of the computer, which I already spend too much time. Thank you for your encouraging words. I was actaully able to learn how to spell after all of that translating.. lol Happy September to all of us!

Sometimes we have to make hard decisions. I've had to make those too and some did not understand why I've done it the way I have. But, we only get so much time. We can't generate more, sadly. Although I love the look of your Greek translations I cannot imagine the time it takes to write a post in 2 languages. Kudos to you and I'm sure your Greek readers will appreciate the translators that you have found.

Thank you Nikki for taking the time to comment on this. I know it was a very hard decision, but I really want to prioritize and do the best job for the blog. And unfortunately there are only 24 hours in a day.

The truth is that blogging is taking too much time and writing in two languages is not that easy. I was also thinking to start translate but I am afraid that I will double the time spending every day. The problem with the translator is the exact translation of a word which in our language sometimes it might have a different meaning, that is if you write in Greek. I think you made the right choice Mary especially if your readers are english speaking.

Eleana, I think if you are a writer and a good one you really want the writing to shine, to show off your personality. This is how you connect with the reader. My voice is in English and Greek has always been a second. I must say that I did learn a lot of Greek spelling while doing all the translating. But I hope that my greek readers will come back for the crafts if not for my writing. Thank you for your comment. I say, pick what you are best at and then shine! :)

Speaking as one of your Greek readers I am totally behind you! I was already reading your english text and it's a bit tiring when your eye stops in the translation too! Keep up the good work and we will definitely follow!

It was exhausting for me Katerina. And the truth is there is a very small percentage of my readers who read in Greek. I think many Greeks also read English like you so it was becoming redundant. Now I can just let loose and express myself in English without worrying about how I will translate that strange phrase in Greek. Thank you for your imput, it just confirmed what I suspected all along. .
