What the Heart Hides – Τι Κρύβει η Καρδιά

Sharing is caring!

It’s that time of the month again where we get to make another  gift for Christmas!  Yes Christmas 2016!   Twelve blogger friends have decided to make a gift per month and by the time December is here we’ll have 12 gifts in all.  No last minute rushing,  no fighting with the crowds in the store. Does that sound like a great idea or what!

Έφτασε ο καιρός να κανουμε κι άλλο ένα δώρο για τα Χριστούγεννα!  Ναι, Χριστούγεννα 2016!  Δώδεκα μπλογκερ φίλες αποφάσισαν να κάνουν ένα δώρο ανά μήνα και  ώσπου  να φτάσει  ο Δεκέμβριος  θα έχουμε ετοιμάσει 12 δώρα. Όχι την τελευταία στιγμή με  βιασύνη, η να παλεύουμε με τα πλήθη στα καταστήματα. Για πείτε μου, δεν ακούγεται σαν μια υπέροχη ιδέα;

To start us off Millie of 2 Crochet Hooks made No sew fleece blankets for January. For February Pili of Sweet Things made a stunning Christmas decor, How to make Christmas Decor using Scrap Wood. Go on over there and check them out, you’ll be surprised at their creativity. I am following along just like you and making my own versions of these gifts. A few weeks ago I made an almost no sew fleece pillow and now I’m going to show you my version of the scrap wood decor.

Heart shaped piece of wood, what the heart hides - www.theboondocksblog.com
 I was sitting near the fireplace, looked up at the mantel and spotted this piece of wood. Once upon a time there were two of these heart shaped wood pieces and they had slats between them forming a basket. Of course as with everything in my home  they fell apart because kids will do that to your precious stuff. But I really liked the  wood so I kept it around. I looked at that wood and thought of Pili’s wood srap.   This was the perfect piece of wood for that project.

I painted it using red acrylic paint and then turned it around and glued a piece of cord to it.

I then grabbed a book I had for recycling and cut a page into a heart shape.

After gluing it onto the wood I brushed it with Mod Podge even the paper, this gave it a bit of a pink hue. It looked perfect – NOT!!  I looked at the wording and it was about platoons and gears and a battle.  Well this would not do at all!

How can I avert this epic failure?  By gluing more  hearts on top of the offensive one!  And so two hearts later it looked like this. I even lightly went over the last one with a red pencil.

Τo finish things off I added one last  heart in a nice neutral tone. That’s a total of four hearts, are you keeping up?

Και για να τελειώσω, πρόσθεσα μια τελευταία καρδιά σε ένα ωραίο ουδέτερο τόνο. Εχουμε συνολικά τέσσερις καρδιές, με ακολουθείτε;

To look at it now, you wouldn’t know there was a battle raging underneath those hearts. Well did I divert an epic disaster or what?  Who knows what the heart hides.

A very pretty heart within a heart within a heart...Mary. You are such a diligent worker, so organized and prepared for gift giving next Christmas! Inspiration can come from many places, indeed, the best being from our own homes or outdoors, in nature, my personal favourite. Happy Christmas crafting! Poppy

I always love reading through your posts Mary! Lol, this one is another fun project of yours! How funny that you had to hide the first heart and how cool does it look now! I love the bright red wooden heart shape and the little ones on top of each other give it that special touch! and bookpages are so cool right now! Also, I like that this gift would be something to go past the holidays all the way into spring next year! Great idea!

Katrin, I have to be careful where I tear pages from. I really had not noticed it was a war book. Can you imagine giving this as a gift to your sweetheart and then he reads it and looks at you like ???

I think it's hilarious that the page you cut out depicted a battle scene! But, your solution of layering the hearts was perfect...think you should've done it regardless of what the page depicted. And look at you getting all ready for Christmas! I"m still trying to get ready for Valentine's day...say what? Valentine's day has passed? Anyway, wishing you a great Monday and beginning to a new week. Hugs, LYnn

Really Lynn, as if I don't have enough books, I had to pick that one! All's well that ends well. Now forget about Christmas or Valentine's day, we need to get into Spring mode. This week I finally found my Spring. Do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day?
