Εδώ είναι το κορίτσι μου δίπλα στο φρέσκο τζάκι. Τώρα δεν φαίνεται καλύτερα;
Όπως φαίνεται από τα κοντινά πλάνα το χρώμα δεν είναι πλέον καθαρό λευκό. Είναι περισσότερο κρεμ και λάμπει με την προσθήκη του μεταλλικού χρώματος.
Είμαι τόσο χαρούμενη που μετέτρεψα αυτό το όμορφο κορίτσι που έμεινε έκπληκτη. Εκείνη ταιριάζει με το υπόλοιπο του δωματίου τέλεια. Φυσικά μόλις αρχίσετε μια εργασία θα ακολουθήσουν και άλλες. Οι τοίχοι φαίνονται απαίσια τώρα !! Όσο για το κορίτσι μου, κάθεται μια χαρά και ελπίζω να μην έχουμε περισσότερες εκπλήξεις. Έχετε ποτέ απρόσμενες εκπλήξεις κατά τον καθαρισμό ή όταν κάνετε μια εργασία;

Mary, I love the finish you put on this frame!! You did such a great job on the needlepoint. I can’t believe there was a wasp nest behind the picture. I’m glad they’re long gone. This is really a beautiful picture and it goes great beside your fireplace! 🙂
Thank you Keri. I am really loving the new look of the frame next to the fireplace.
I think I would have done the same thing Mary. It looks so much nicer and brighter now. Great job :).
Want to know something? For a second I thought you were going to paint over the needlepoint! Crazy right?!
Thanks Doreen, It looked awful next to my new fireplace. You’ll see I’ll be so unhappy that pretty soon I’ll have to paint the whole room.. lol. Haha. I would never paint the needlepoint. I put so many hours into that thing, It is about a yard in height so it took a while to make it and it is a reminder of my dear mom.
Oh she went from pretty to beautiful. Awesome and the creamy color of the frame seems to make her stand out more. She looks lovely.
Aww thank you Michelle, My girl has been around forever so she deserved to have a makeover.
It looks way better and I’m happy you kept this but made it more fresh! Can’t wait to see what will you do next!
I really wanted to keep my girl. I don’t think I’ll ever part with her for obvious reasons.
Good Thursday Morning Mary! I hope your day is going well.
First of all, I really enjoy the titles of your posts…they are so intriguing and immediately catch my attention.
Second…that needlepoint is lovely, and all the more so because of it’s history.Needlepoint is one art that I have never attempted, but lucky for me my mom is a needlepointer and I have been blessed with several of her projects. She also needlepointed beautiful stocking for both of my kids that they will have forever.
OK…now on to your frame…the paint and glaze made such a huge difference…really made the pretty girl pop and it looks so great on your wall, next to your fireplace. Good decision.
And you are so right, it’s a rare day when one project doesn’t lead to another…but then…that’s why we do what we do!
Hugs and wishes for a beautiful day, Lynn
Lynn I was blessed to have learned needlepoint at a young age by my mom. She also taught me crocheting and lacemaking but sadly I do not remember how to do those. So you see, you have one up on me because I know you make the most beautiful crocheted work. You are right we do what we do for the love of the project and because we can’t leave well enough alone (fess up!) .
This turned out beautifully. Now your lovely needlepoint really stands out in it’s frame
It does and I’m so glad I refinished it. My girl looks like a star!
She looks wonderful! You did an amazing job on that project, as well! I love your creativity. Your painting and embellishing really make that frame gorgeous. 🙂
Thank you for your kind words Martie. I can now look at the wall and not cringe.
That’s a great idea to change the color of the frame, Mary! What a difference! And your Pretty Girl blends in nicely with your surrounding décor and especially the newly renovated fireplace!
The old color was such a contrast with the new fireplace. It just looked jarring. Now everything is much calmer Gail.
Mary, your needlepoint work is amazing. I’m so impressed because I started a few needlepoint projects years ago and never finished. I know it was time consuming, but it is gorgeous!! Your new paint job makes your work stand out. It is beautiful!
Sherry this was done when I was still a teen, before kids and family. I had started another project that has been sittting in my trunk for 20 years. They are very detail oriented and time consuming.
You should be getting compensated for using chalk paint. You use it successfully on everything and I am convinced (after following your blog) I need to use it to! Thank you for showing the jar – that helps.
The frame came out beautiful and you are correct, it fits in perfectly.
Its great the needlepoint didn’t get damaged with the mud dubers – thank goodness. Now you can pass it down to the next generation. It is a lovely piece.
Krista you should absolutely try chalk paint. I really hate using oil paints and those semi-gloss things. That is what’s available here for furniture. I asked the hubs to get this for me last time he was in the States. So he went to Michael’s. They have so many great brands. This one is very reasonably priced. You know I think I will pass it on to the next generation.
I agree with Krista, Mary – apply for the DecoArt blogger program. I can’t believe what you found hiding under the backing, yikes!
I applied yesterday, I love that paint so much . When I move to greener pastures I may try the AS. The funny thing about the backing was that I was totally unaware of this . I had never seen any wasps in the dining room.
Looks awesome Mary!!!
Thank you Michelle, now my girl matches the fireplace.
Turned out great!
Thanks Cathy. I’m very pleased with it too.
You did a wonderful job transforming the frame. In fact, I think your updated version suits the picture much better than the original.
I have to agree, the white looks so much better. Back in the 70’s gold was all the rage.
The wasps nest is horrifying! I am so glad you found it. The girl looks really pretty in the new frame. I love needlework and have some in my home that my grandmother made. I never looked at the back, Yikes!
The thing about the nest is it must have been empty for a while and I had not even noticed. I guess ignorance is bliss.
Love your frame makeover, Mary! For a minute I was worried you were going to replace your beautiful needlework, but I was glad to see her back in the frame in the end. I used to do counted cross stitch, so I know how long those kinds of projects take! Your stitch work is just gorgeous!
Celeste, I consider this a family treasure not because I made it but because of the meaning behind it. So I hope to keep it around for a long time and eventually pass it on to one of the kids.
That was quite a surprise you found. The needlepoint is beautiful. At first I thought the picture was an oil painting. The frame looks terrific and enhances the beautiful girl picture. And you are so right, one thing always leads to another.
Can you imagine if it was an oil painting? Unfortunately I am not that gifted. But at least I can paint a frame. In this case it made a world of difference.
The needlepoint is such a treasure and I love that you did it for your mom. I wouldn’t have known what to do to make the frame better…but you sure did. Its looks great!!
Thank you so much Mary. It was time for a refresh after all these years.
you made that! nice! and the redo of the frame is lovely too.
Thank you Kellie. It really makes a difference now with the bright frame.
It does look much better Mary! Very fresh and bright! I have to try that technique out, that you mentioned, you know I’m experimenting with chalk paint, so it’s interesting to know! Thank you! What a lovely piece of art and memories right next to your beautiful fireplace!!
It makes me happy to have changed it up a bit. I should have done it sooner even before the fireplace makeover.
How great colors you chose for the frame. Now that wonderful tapestry pops like nothing else.
My mom used to do a lot of tapestry.I am lucky that she gave some to me when I got married, but till today never got a chance to get them framed. Seeing how lovely yours look now I want to get those framed ASAP 🙂
I’m glad I was able to inspire you Handan. You are going to love having your mom’s work framed and hanging on your walls. I also plan to pass this on to one of my kids when the time comes. But then I’ll have to make a few more so as not to have the others feel left out… it never ends. 🙂
Hello Mary,
indeed the Girl wasn’t ugly, but it sure looks absolutely stunning now! Awesome!
Have a nice weekend,
Marjan
I have to agree with you Marjan. She looks pretty good against the white. Have a great weekend.
That is slick! First of all, the needlework is gorgeous! I think what you did with that frame is amazing and I like the new frame color better with the piece. It’s really fresh and “pops” now. Beautiful work, Mary! (Oh my gosh about the mud daubers nest!)
I have to agree with you Regina, the old color was looking too tired and lackluster. Now my girl can even take a selfie, she looks so good. And we will never talk about the nest again. 😉
I bet the girl is as happy as you with the final result! I find that the renewed frame suits the whole piece really really nice! Well done! I loved this technique!
Haha! She better be because she is not getting another makeover for a long time! I have to say the whole frame feels so nice and smooth. I really love this technique .
Very nice update. She looks beautiful. 🙂
gwingal
Yes, I should have done this years ago Nikki. What was I thinking to wait so long.
The frame turned out really nice Mary. Thanks for introducing us to this glazing technique – pinning for later! Good to now!
Ilka I was just saying that this is something I should have done years ago. Of course, I would not have done as good a job because I didn’t know about all these cool techniques. So becoming a blogger was good because I learn new things all the time.
Thank you for sharing your frame makeover with us at TOHOT!
Jemma
Thank you for hosting such a great party.
Imagine that! It turned out fantastic and very artistic and updated and fab.
Really, really works well with the fireplace. 🙂
Who could have thought those wasps could get back in there. Good thing they were gone. Pfeww!
It had to get a makeover becuse it looked pathetic next to the shiny new fireplace. I’ll tell you, I think those wasps were there a while ago but what seems strange to me is that I never noticed them. And it’s in the dining room, the most used room in the house.
What a stunning needlepoint Mary. I adore the new look of the frame. Thank you so much for linking up to Thoughts of Home on Thursday. You make our gathering a happier place.
Thank you Laura. I am really happy with the outcome of this frame, I think my pretty girl is too.
Wow, what a great transformation. Love the painting technique. And the wasp nests would scare me away until my husband got home! Thanks for linking up with Funtastic Friday.
Haha! Lucky for me they were long gone. Because my husband looked at me like… what is going on here???
Without a doubt, Mary, she looks beautiful in the newly painted frame and I think she’s much happier! And a wasp nest inside your house…NO!!!
She sure is happier, and especially since we got rid of that nest.
Mary, I do the same thing to many of my frames. You did a great job and the transformation is gorgeous! Thank you for sharing@Vintage Charm!
It really is a great technique and gives depth and such a smooth finish. I was really surprised by that.
You did a wonderful job on the frame. It suits the room now and really accentuates the needle point. Gross wasp nest. So lucky there were no live critters in there.
Yes Darlene, you are so right, it does accentuate the needle point. And that makes me very happy because it’s very special to me. I think if there were live critters in there I never would have made it to the point of painting the frame. The irony is that I didn’t discover the nest till after I had painted the front.
Mary, You did a wonderful job on the pretty girl! I think it is wonderful that your Dad gave it to you for safe keeping. The frame makeover is wonderful and just the right touch to brighten up the look of the old dark frame. Looks great next to your fireplace. I know what you mean about how one project sometimes seems to beckon another 🙂 Thanks for linking up with us for Snickerdoodle Sunday!
Laurie, it really does make a huge diffence and I couldn’t see it as long as the fireplace was dark. Once I lightened it up, it changed everthing.
I see you put it up by the fireplace you redid! Now you can admire both at the same time! Thank you so much for linking at #overthemoon! I look forward to seeing what you share every week. Please come back for #WonderfulWednesday or #ThursdayFavoriteThings. Don’t forget to comment your link #’s so I can be sure to visit and you get a chance to be featured! Pinned and shared.
It was there all along Marilyn, it just looked awful after the fireplace makeover. But now they both look good and the whole room has brightened up.
Much lighter! I love how it came out and happy that you had the chance to preserve it.
And not get stung by any wasps. lol
I wonder how long that mud dabber nest was there? That would be a crazy surprise! I really love the needlepoint, that picture had to have taken you some time, that’s a whole lot of stitches, I thought it was a painting at first, it’s an incredible piece!
You my friend are a pro with the details, I’m not sure I ever would have thought to repaint the frame after the fireplace redo, but it just pops off the wall now. And the needlepoint stands out too.
I have not tried chalk paint yet, but I am inspired by you to try it, it sure covers well, and I love that you don’t have to do a lot of prep first!
Thank you Nikki. It has been more than a month now and I am really l oving it. It looks so nice on the wall and the finish is really growing on me. I have not seen any more wasps so that is a good thing.
