I’ve had a few of these spice racks that I never use. I’d painted one in black years ago waiting for the day I’d find an actual use for it. Well that day finally came when I was preparing my Christmas decorating.
I took a piece of cardboard and measured it to fit the back of the spice rack. Once it was cut out I glued on a few sheets of doily paper that I had left over from my project the Doily Top side table. Here you can see how it looks in the back, after I had stapled it onto the spice rack.
I then took a bigger box and cut it up so that the bottom and sides were left, almost like a U shape. I made sure that it fit perfectly into the wall unit. It was used as a backdrop, to be placed behind the spice rack and also to hide all of the books and whatnot that I did not want distracting from the vignette in front.
I covered the U shaped box with more doily paper. Really you can use anything at all I was trying for a snowy white look and liked the way the cut outs looked. I then added some construction paper trees. You can see here that I only added the trees on the sides because I’d be placing the spice rack in the middle.
I then added more trees on the doily cardboard that was stapled onto the inside of the spice rack. And then I just decorated using my favorite left over ornaments.

Here we have more ornaments. Below I placed two pieces of driftwood that had been painted white and hung ornaments and golden globes. The holes were already there. They were originally used for hanging paper towels and aluminum foil.
Here you can see my skiers hanging from the driftwood along with the golden mini-globes.
I also wrapped a fake piece of garland along one slate of the spice rack.
And it was that easy to repurpose that old spice rack. I think we can take anything that is left over and unloved and find a purpose for it with just a little inspiration.
And now it is time for a few closing shots to finish off my Christmas decor. A few pieces on the coffee table.
And Mr. Pumpkin with his Santa hat on and all smiles. You may have noticed that I no longer call him Mr. Paranoid man. We all know he has calmed down a bunch since the party.
The mantel and fireplace sparsely decorated. I think we have more than enough on the other side of the room with the wall unit.
And with this project where I have repurposed my spice rack vignette for Christmas, I have come to the end of my Christmas decorating and repurposing. I think that you are all probably ready with your homes now. All that remains now is for the gift shopping and the groceries. But all of that is not my department. Have you finished with the decorating for Christmas?
I want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays.
