Adding Privacy to your Outdoor Space with Fabric – Μακριά από Αδιάκριτα Μάτια

Sharing is caring!

I have a lovely balcony that for years I could not enjoy because it is situated in a very busy main street. I desperately needed some privacy.   I solved this problem by adding a bamboo fence.  This worked for a few years but now I have this situation where at night with the lights on I feel there is too much exposure. Instead I added privacy to my outdoor space with fabric.

I needed privacy in areas where I will place a table and chairs, in others not so much.  I looked around my bountiful basement and found this old laminate board full of holes.  I put some twine between the holes and attached it to the balcony railings.  It looked pretty ugly. But it was the right size.

But like I said – Ugly. If I wanted something to last, I would want it to be water resistant on the outside , and pretty on the inside.   My solution… I had an old roll of heavy duty plastic, which I cut and nailed on to the laminate.

It was pretty frayed on the edges as well. I thought if I can cover this it might work.

For the inside I decided to go with a pattern that would echo the stripes of the bamboo fence. I glued it on .

I then folded the fabric over and nailed it down.

Here is what it looked like at this point.

The next step was to brush it with varnish to protect it. Or  you can use this

I opened the holes for the twine on the fabric.

And I placed it on the bamboo fence.

This  is not  the best solution to my problem, but it is certainly better than the thin bamboo fence.  I was able to use what I had at hand without spending a ton of money and it looks  nice.  It is also water resistant, so I can leave it there over the winter.

And that is my idea for adding privacy to your outdoor area with fabric. In fact, I like it so much I’m going to make another one, but with a different design. What do you think, is this a good idea to keep unwanted eyes away?

Πράγματι, μου αρέσει τόσο πολύ που θα κάνω άλλο ένα, αλλά με διαφορετικό σχεδιασμό. Τι νομίζετε, αυτό είναι μια καλή ιδέα να κρατήσει τα ανεπιθύμητα μάτια μακριά;
