Art and a Milestone – Η Τέχνη και ένας Σταθμός

Today is my 100th post!!!  A milestone for me and so to celebrate I am doing something different. A few days ago I had a visit from a good friend of mine.  She brought with her some  paintings she had made and I was so impressed with her talent that I’d like to share them with you today!

Photis Kontoglou Art and a Milestone www.theboondocksblog.com
These works are based on the Greek artist Photis Kontoglou (above), who was a writer, painter and icon painter.   His style is very typical of the Byzantine style of painting.

The most obvious feature of this type of aesthetic was its abstract, or anti-naturalistic character. If classical art mimicked reality then, Byzantine art seems to have abandoned this attempt in favor of a more symbolic approach.

I want to thank my friend for these lovely canvases and for bringing a bit of sunshine into my daily routine.  I hope you all enjoy them and let’s look forward to the next 100 posts.

Debra thanks. They were so much fun to style. All those bursts of color. I have to say when you go to a Byzantine church, they are full of bright colors, just like these paintings.
