I hope everyone is having a good week. We are in the middle of a heat wave, so I am doing little projects in my daughter’s freshly painted room, instead of tackling the big ones! My girl has a tiny ikea desk in her room, and it was full of little mugs and containers, which held her pens, pencils and markers. This was obviously not working out. I thought if I find a nice box I can corall them all in there. Well, I ended up going one step further.
Ελπίζω να εχετε μια καλή εβδομάδα. Είμαστε στη μέση ενός κύματος καύσωνα, έτσι κάνω μικρά έργα στο φρεσκοβαμμένο δωμάτιο της κόρης μου, αντί να αντιμετωπίσω τα μεγάλα! Το κορίτσι μου έχει ένα μικρό γραφείο ΙΚΕΑ στο δωμάτιό της, και ήταν γεμάτο από μικρές κούπες και δοχεία, που κρατούσαν τους στυλούς, μολύβια και μαρκαδόρους της. Προφανώς αυτό δεν έκανε για αυτό το χώρο. Σκέφτηκα ότι αν βρω ένα ωραίο κουτί μπορώ να πιάνω όλα αυτά εκεί. Λοιπόν, εγώ κατέληξα να πάω ένα βήμα παραπέρα.
I found a small box and decided to cover it with a fabric of her choice. Can you tell she loves blue?
Βρήκα ένα μικρό κουτί και αποφάσισα να το καλύψω με ύφασμα της επιλογής της. Μπορείτε να καταλάβετε ότι αγαπάει το μπλε;
I applied mod podge to the box and glued the fabric on. I kept the flaps and covered them too, and then I made sure to fold them in, like this.

For some strange reason the mod podge showed through and it did not look very pretty. I also stapled the fabric on the edges so I would be sure to have a tight fit.

When I tried to glue the sides, it would not hold. I think this may be because the fabric was very thick, almost a burlap quality. And so instead of adding more mod podge, I sewed it with thick thread used for needlepoint work. I did this on all sides to give it a uniform look.
Όταν προσπάθησα να κολλήσω τις πλευρές, δεν κρατούσαν. Νομίζω ότι αυτό μπορεί να συμβαίνει επειδή το ύφασμα ήταν πολύ παχύ, σχεδόν μια ποιότητα από λινάτσα. At this point I had a huge mess on my hands. I had to add another piece of fabric to the fourth side because the fabric was not big enough. More sewing, and on the bottom as well. This is just to let you all know that not all projects work out the way you want them to.
Σε αυτό το σημείο είχα ένα τεράστιο “μπελά” στα χέρια μου. Έπρεπε να προσθέσω ένα άλλο κομμάτι υφάσματος για την τέταρτη πλευρά, επειδή το ύφασμα δεν ήταν αρκετά μεγάλο. Είχα περισσότερο ράψιμο και στο κάτω μέρος. Έτσι για να γνωρίζετε ότι δεν λειτουργούν όλα τα έργα με τον τρόπο που θέλουμε.
Finally I was ready to work on the bottom. I took a piece of cardboard, cut it to the measurements of the bottom and covered it in contact paper.
Τελικά ήμουν έτοιμη να εργαστώ στο κάτω μέρος. Πήρα ένα κομμάτι χαρτόνι, το έκοψα και το κάλυψα με αυτοκόλλητο χαρτί.
I placed it on the bottom of the box, and flipped the sides in.
Το έβαλα στο κάτω μέρος του κουτιού, και έστριψα τις πλευρές από μέσα.
But I was not done yet. I took 3 cappuccino cans and covered them in the same contact paper.
Αλλά δεν τελείωσα ακόμη. Πήρα 3 κουτιά καπουτσίνο και τα κάλυψα με το ίδιο χάρτη.
Here you can see how the bottom matches the containers and creates a nice effect.

Now to fill it up! It looks so much more pulled together. And if she wants to remove the stuff from her desk all she has to do is lift one box, instead of 5 containers.
Τώρα για να το γεμίσω! Μοιάζει πολύ πιο συμμαζεμένο. Και αν θέλει να αφαιρέσει τα πράγματα από το γραφείο της, το μόνο που έχει να κάνει είναι να σηκώσει ένα κουτί, αντί για 5 δοχεία.
After waiting 24 hours, those pesky mod podge stains would not disappear, and so I added some decoration to the box to hide the stains.
Μετά από αναμονή 24 ωρών, εκείνες οι ενοχλητικές λεκέδες κόλλας δεν εξαφανίστηκαν, και έτσι πρόσθεσα κάποια διακόσμηση στο κουτί για να κρύψει τους λεκέδες.

And so her desk is a bit more pulled together now. Next job, is the lamp shade and the desk itself which needs some work. Stay tuned!
