We had this hand me down table that had a secret – it housed a sewing machine. The table was beautiful but it had limited space underneath for storage. This is what it might have looked like originally. I found this photo on the internet.
Βρήκα αυτή την φωτογραφία στο διαδίκτυο.I had some beautiful linen fabric in the house and decided to use this as a cover for the table. Βut I knew that just covering it would not work because we needed easy access to the storage area. So I figured I would make it with flaps. I measured out the fabric and glued the hem. Then I ironed the edges and proceeded to staple the fabric pieces along the top of the table.

I knew it! You made a gorgeous fitted table cloth. I’m a little lazy now a days and tend to just throw a cloth over it and let the material billow on the floor.
This one was for the boys’ apartment. I had to do a good job for them! 😉
Wonderful way to disguise storage, it has the appearance of a long table with a tablecloth. Very nice job! Lisa@ Sweet Tea N’ Salty Air
I really wanted to hide all of those bottles of water. And this was the best way. Also I wanted to create balance in the room. If it was not long it would have looked like a stubby toe in the room.
Aww, Mary, how could you not want them to have a neat place? Even if they don’t mind if it’s not neat, but I’m sure they appreciate it! I love the fabric, it’s great to hide stuff behind it, you won’t see stains easily! Perfect solution!
I don’t know what is going on there? I should ask them to send me a photo so I can inspect the mess… lol.
Mary,
Very nicely done and so simple too for a great looking storage solution for the boys. Loving the addition of that black burlap ribbon! Hope the boys can appreciate their Mom the DIY repurpose star! Pinning to share! Have an excellent week!
Laurie
The black ribbon makes all the difference. First of all it h ides the staples and second it gives it a bit of oumph! The boys have to wait till I go and see them and then they will see how much I’ve improved. Have a great weekend Laurie!
I like the material and the trim. Such a smart idea. You are obviously great at improvising. There’s so much satisfaction in that…don’t you think?
Happy TOHOT. 🙂
The satisfaction really comes from being able to hide the messes the boys make! 😉
I love how simple it is but it really looks fantastic. Sometime we (I) think about complicated ways to make things look nice, while they are easier ways to do it and get a better look. I bet your son is happy with the table.
Sometimes Pili, simple can be more dramatic. In this case because it was for the boys I didn’t want it to be complicated, plus the rooms are not very big.
Mary, it looks much better! And I wouldn’t doubt that you would have just the right fabric in your stash to make this work. I’m sure they they appreciate all you’ve done to help them decorate their apartment, it’s a bit like having a piece of “home” right there with the.
The fabric really did make the piece feel larger, and I love that there is so much storage now. Great idea.
When I first put it on they looked at me like I had done serious damage. But now they have gotten used to it. Boys don’t like change. .lol.
Mary, I remember when kitchen sink skirts were common. It makes such a difference to just have that stuff behind little curtains. Great job! Thanks for sharing at Five Star Frou-Frou this week. Love, Mimi
Mimi, I used to have a skirt for my bathroom sink it was so pretty. This one is a bit more polished, we don’t want too much frou frou for the boys..lol.
It’s crazy how some fabric can make it look so much better! I’ve got an area in my living room where Hubby has his video games that could probably stand to be covered by some fabric. Thanks for the idea and for sharing on #sutainablesunday.
I hope I have inspired you to hide hubby’s games…lol.
What a great idea, and I love how you’ve finished it with the burlap.
Thank you Lucy. It needed a bit of contrast.
It really reminds me of the curtains my nan had under her sink when I was little, a great way to cover a storage area without too much fuss,
The ribbon really smartens it up too. Your boys are very lucky!
By opening up the sewing table I weas able to get twice as much storage too.
I so need to do this, I’ve got lots of junk I need to hide! Brilliant idea xx
I was really desperate Anna. Those water bottles had to disappear pronto!
Clever idea Mary! Great way to add some extra storage without the eye sore. Pretty fabric and nicely done.
Thank you so much Linda, it really was an eye sore in the worst way possible.
