I don’t normally do these types of posts but I just had to share this with all of you.
As you know I am in New York visiting my sons. The older one recently moved into his own apartment with his girlfriend and I wanted to give them a housewarming gift. They had bought a new couch with some generic looking pillows – no personality whatsoever. I wanted to get them handmade pillow cases with personality.
I immediately thought of my good friend Nikki Frank-Hamilton who runs a blog with the same name. She started her own business making handmade pillow cases.
I had the kids look at her online shop Make Lemonade Shop, to choose what they wanted. The loved everything but wanted a very personal look.
To pay homage to our town in Greece they decided on a coastal theme with a sailboat and anchor. It was to be hand painted with black ink on a burlap fabric. They came up with their own designs and we sent them off to Nikki.
When the package arrived we were all thrilled at the craftsmanship. Nikki did an amazing job hand painting the designs we sent her. There is even lining on the inside which gives the pillows a nice full shape.
And they are a nice size too, 18 X 18 inches. No skimpy pillowcases here!
There was even a surprise for me. I had told Nikki one day that I loved the peace blue jean pillow and lo and behold, what did I find in the package? My favorite pillow!
I love how they look against the dark backdrop of my couch.
Of course they look even better on the kids’ brand new sectional. They make for a nice contrast to the deep grey tone. And they are full of personality! The stately grey pillows are behind blending in, but Nikki’s pillows stand out beautifully!
And the kids (by the way they will be miffed that I’m calling them kids, but that is what they are to me) got exactly what they wanted!
Why even John, their cat, has given a paw of approval for the new pillows!
I am very happy with this gift I gave to my son and his girlfriend. A new home should be full of love and lots of happy memories. I think they made a great choice in the design. Handmade pillows with personality!
But I made an even better choice when I ordered them from Nikki’s Make Lemonade Shop. She delivered custom made pillow cases in a matter of days after I placed my order and I couldn’t be happier with the quality. Thank you Nikki!

These are really nice. I wouldn't have though of using burlap on indoor cushions, but the idea of having them with the ship makes me thing of all the rope used on boats and anchors. Lovely present Mary.

The kids were very happy with them. And the fact that they had total control makes it all the better. Thanks Leanna.

Very nice pillows! I wish I knew you were in NY, I just got home Monday from a week in NY outside of Albany. My brother is selling his 200 year old farmhouse and I brought my 89 year old mother to visit him and of course help clear out his house a bit, by bringing more stuff (or junk as my husband would say) to our house. I'm sorry, but canning jars are never "junk" in my opinion. If you or your kids need any farmhouse stuff including burlap, I can connect you with my brother. Have fun visiting with your sons.
