The Blue Bunk Bed - Η Μπλε Κουκέτα

Sharing is caring!

Today I am going to continue the transformation of my daughter’s bedroom, the blue room as we now call it. When we moved to Greece there were no Ikea stores.   We had moved a lot of furniture, but I did not think I needed a bunk bed till I had my 2 girls. What to do?  I had taken one of their catalogues with me and so using the measurements from the catalogue I was able to go to a carpenter and order a bunk bed which looked like the MYDAL from Ikea.

If you have been following me you know what I have done so far.  But I have not shown you what the room looked like before. So maybe this is a good time to show you a little before …

The bed is incredibly strong and made from solid wood.  Four kids have jumped up and down on that bed and used it as a playground. But now it is time to revamp it a bit.

Ideally, I should paint it but at this point it is not an option.  So instead I am going to try and tone down the wood a bit. Here is my easy solution.

I just added some fabric to the head and foot of each bed. In the case of the head board, I have inserted some old blankets to give it a bit of a cushion.

It was that simple.  The blue stripes tie in with the rest of  the room and give the bed  a pulled together look. And that is the end for my Blue Room.  In my next post I will show you the rest of the room, and all the toil I have put myself through.

Mary, it is awesome how some fabric can change an entire room. I love the detail of the Frankenstein lamp behind the bunk bed. Can't wait to see the rest of the room!

So fabulous, Mary! The fabric head/foot boards are GENIUS! If my daughter, with her own blue bedroom, complains about all the wood of her loft bed, I'll show her this idea. You might very well save the day! ;)

I hope so Elizabeth. We need to find frugal ways to update their rooms because their style changes every year...lol
