The little lie - Το  ψεματάκι

10/7/2015

Hello to everyone hope you had a wonderful weekend.  Those of you that have been following me know that I (ehmmm) finished  my daughter's bedroom the Blue Room as we call it here. Yes, that is what I said and I even posted a lengthy reveal...the lengthiest post yet. But I lied. It was a little lie...

If you are obsessive like me, you know that nothing is ever really completed.  In this case, I wanted to do a lot more in the Blue Room, but sometimes we have to respect the occupant's wishes  (what a horrible thought) and in the process keep my vision on hold. This chair, for example is putting a damper on my spirits.

A chair makeover before, The Little Lie, theboondocksblog.com
It is a nice chair, but oh so boring.  And this room is full of lovely blueness.  I begged her to let me paint it blue (chalk paint maybe) .. I pleaded for a new fabric .... no to that as well.  Until one day I was going through her dresser and I found an old top that she had not worn in ages.

An old top, The Little Lie, theboondocksblog.com
I looked at it and thought, those are nice colors...I asked her if she wanted the blouse and she said she liked it but it did not fit anymore... but she liked it. That was my opportunity to jump  "Honey, why don't we put it on the chair, that way  you can always have it close to you since you like it."   "Okay" she replied absentmindedly. Score one for mom!  And so we begin.

the top back of the chair, The Little Lie, theboondocksblog.com
After unscrewing the top from the skeleton, I pulled the back of the chair off and it snapped apart, simple as that.

Inserting the fabric in the chair top, The Little Lie, theboondocksblog.com
After I arranged the fabric I just popped it closed.

closing the top, The Little Lie, theboondocksblog.com
I then smoothed the fabric over the chair and stapled it onto the bottom.

And that was it, less than 5 minutes!  Isn't she a beauty??

And in her natural habitat... Doesn't she look gorgeous next to the dresser?

Και στο φυσικό της περιβάλλον  ... δεν ειναι πανέμορφη δίπλα στη συρταριέρα;

And so I lied, I have not finished the Blue Room... although my daughter thinks otherwise.  (Hello nasty looking desk behind the pretty chair!) .

Wow! Another great transformation Mary! And I love how you use just anything for fabric instead of going and spending extra. I always love to be able to not spend any money on projects. It makes it even better! And the pattern is so nice, I love stripes! It looks awesome!

So glad you visited Karen, the whole purpose of the blog is to use as much of what I already have. Repurposing at its best (I hope) so I always shop in the house, before resorting to outside influences. Good luck with your daughter's chair, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

The chair turn out great Mary! I love the colors, so much more prettier then the boring tan that the chair use to be.

Have you ever tackled a large chair? I have a couple of chairs in our den area that I want to try to upholster, but scare to try. The fabric won't be cheap, but cheaper then paying someone else to do it. If I knew I could do it without messing it up I would be ok to spend the extra for the fabric. But that's a lot to spend and then make a big mess of it.

I have actually redone sofas but it was years ago and all I did was sew the fabric right onto the sofa. Not every practical. I think the best way to do it if you can is to take it apart and use the old fabric pieces as a template for your new fabric. That way you know what to cut. I would love to attempt it in the future. Good luck and I'm sure it'll turn out fine.
