The Paranoid Man Pumpkin Craft

Here we are halfway into fall and I have not shown you any pumpkin crafts….

Here we are halfway into fall and I have not shown you any pumpkin crafts.  Well what kind of fall lover would I be, if I haven’t done a pumpkin craft?

So here it is.  My pumpkin.  My pride and joy, although it does  have a few dents.

And you say “so what, we’ve seen already seen this in your DIY easy Fall eucalyptus vignette”.

Yes, you have.  But you haven’t seen my paranoid man pumpkin craft.

But let’s start at the beginning. I have had this bowl sitting in my… no, not the basement.  This time it’s the kitchen cabinet. The only problem was that it had a burn in one spot and all the liquids seeped out. So it was pretty useless.

Of course, I kept it around with the intent of repurposing it.

I took a book that I had read years ago and mod podged the bowl with the pages.  And in case you’re wondering the book is called “A Man.”

This is a ribbon spool.  I placed that inside the bowl…

…and placed my pumpkin inside the bowl, added a fedora and called it a day!

Oh, and let’s not forget his eyes!

The poor pumpkin man looked to his right and there were more pumpkins….

And to his left was another pumpkin… too much competition!

And that evil faced bottle. We’ve seen that before too!  Why it’s positively glowering at the pumpkin man.

Pumpkins made with old scarves and stuffed with toilet paper and tissue paper … everyone knows that old trick!

The pumpkin man was not at all happy about this situation.  He wanted to be the center of attention!

Would a change of attire help to distinguish him?

Or would he still be outshined by those sassy pumpkins next to him?

I guess our paranoid pumpkin man is destined to be squished among the rubble pumpkins.

And so we leave him miserable and all squished, till we can find the paranoid pumpkin man craft another hat that will outshine them all!  Which hat do you prefer on the paranoid man pumpkin?

  1. hahaha, Mary, so funny and what a fun fun fun and clever idea to dress up that pumpkin and make it into the paranoid pumpkin man! Love it, the grey hat is my favourite on him and the way he looks over to the fancy other pumpkins is so cool!

  2. Hello Mary,
that’s a real funny story! Turth be told: I never was any good in carving out pumkins – so why did I never come up with the idea of drawing a face onto the pumpkin instead of fighting with it for hours on end!??? Argh, well… Eventually there will be grandchildren…
    Have a lovely day,
    Marjan

    1. I used to carve pumpkins but they rot so quickly that I wanted an alternative. It’s now the 24th of October and Paranoid man is still going strong.

  3. Mary,
I love it! I reckon this could become a series. The adventures of Mr Pumpkin man, a tale for every season. We don’t celebrate Halloween in Australia very much (if that is why a pumpkin is being featured) but I love a great story. Your post really put a smile on my face!
    Thank you.

    1. Julie as long as Pumpkin man has not rotted, because he is a real pumpkin, I will find a way to weave him into my posts at least until Halloween. Thank you for your sweet comment.

  4. Lol Mary, poor paranoid pumpkin man. I think he looks gorgeous in the black mafia hat and he has no reason to feel left out. Give him a little kiss on his cheek for me please 😉

  5. Mary, I love, love, love this paranoid pumpkin man!! You are really too funny and clever!! The bowl is perfect. I also like all the fabric pumpkins sitting around him, so pretty!! The paranoid pumpkin man’s eyes are so interesting and captivating that I actually didn’t notice he switched hats until I got the end of the post, oh he’s good, real good. 😉

    1. Kellie there was nothing special about the repurpose so I had to give the poor guy a good storyline. haha!

    1. Leanna he doesn’t like competition and with the preparations for the party it will only get worst for him.

  6. I really enjoyed this. I think I would be keeping Mr. Pumpkin Man around. Can you make him an elf on the shelf outfit so he can celebrate Christmas? He is so cute.

    1. That is such a great idea Debra but he is a real pumpkin so I don’t know how long he’s going to last. haha!

    1. We’ve got to get into the Halloween spirit around here. Truth be told, I think I am enjoying this more than the kids.

  7. Ok, Mary, seriously, this is my favorite fall craft so far this year. Actually, maybe ever. You just made me laugh and smile so hard…Now I need one.

    1. Kim this is the easiest thing to do. And you too are always saying how the best crafts are the simplest.

    1. You thnk so? Maybe I can get a clown suit and it will be a double act with the pumpkin man? haha!

  8. This is such an original craft, and a fun story, too! Your paranoid pumpkin man’s adventures made me giggle. I’d love to see more! (Oh, and I like him in the black hat.)

    1. He looks like a gangster in the black hat, right? But I think he still has a few hat changes to go through before he is done Jenny.

    1. Michele it is the fault of the bowl. It was the bowl that got me thinking. I really wanted to repurpose it and not just throw it awy and so Paranoid man was born.

  9. You’re too funny Mary! I’m not too fond of fall but this paranoid man is a great idea!! He looks great with both hats, and I admit I didn’t know the trick about the TP roll as a pumpkin. You saved my blogging life this fall!!

    1. That one with the TP rolls is so easy you don’t even need a tutorial for it and the shape is naturally pumpkin.

  10. Good Evening Mary, I love the paranoid pumpkin…. but don’t let him feel outshone by his ‘sassy’ neighbours, how could he be outshone when he is wearing such a stylish grey hat.
This post really put a smile on my face.
    Have a lovely evening.
    Best Wishes to you.
    Daphne

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed it Daphne. I never know where a project will take me when I start. In this case the whole idea was originally based around a bowl. And look where it got me.

  11. Goodness, Mary….this post was a hoot and a holler. I laughed and giggled all the way through. All your pumpkins are wonderful, but I think I might be in love with your paranoid pumpkin man! Yee-haw!

    1. He is something special that Paranoid man, winning all of our hearts over with that scowl that we can see in his eyes.

    1. Yes he looks like a detective when the hat is pulled down really low, and depending on which angle he is photographed he looks like he is following you with his eyes. That sneaky guy!

  12. FYI- I ordered a Cinderella Coach pumpkin kit through your Amazon link. Watch for it!

  14. How fun is this? I love the pumpkin Man, his hat is great, pulled down over his eyes he reminds me of an old time gumshoe detective, trying to watch his target.
I love the story behind it and the vignette that you’ve created. The fabric pumpkins look great nestled together. I love the orange one with the yellow embroidery and the red one is really cool too. I love them all, lol.
You have a knack for tying things together, and I love the spooky story! LOL Can’t wait to see what happens next.

    1. Sometimes the simplist things can have the biggest impact. I did this because I wanted to repurpose that bowl with a hole. And now you see Nikki, it has turned into a series. haha!

  15. I love your little pumpkin man – that is the perfect project for the stressed out Mom who needs to decorate a pumpkin and has run out of time! I also love the hat, because the squirrels have feasted on my pumpkins, chewing mostly up around the stem. ARGH! Now I’m thinking I’ll got pop a hat on top of them. (visiting from Brag About It!)

    1. Seana you are absolutely right it is an easy project with loads of charm. In fact my pumpkin man has become a celebrity of sorts.

  16. He is so cute the paranoid man!! I prefer the black hat he looks more like Mr Sherlock 😀 Your pumpkins look so beautiful !!

  17. This is just the cutest idea and would be perfect to link up at the Hauntingly Beautiful Decor Halloween Link party going on now through Halloween on my blog! I hope you will come on over and party with us! Can’t wait to see more ideas here on your blog!

  18. Pumpkin Man rises again! I like the black hat better. Like what you did with the bowl! Don’t tell me Pumpkin Man really lived another year???

    1. Florence I got him early October and up until last week when we left he was still going strong!

  20. Mary, I should have known when I saw the thumbnail photo of the pumpkin man that it was you. So clever, and so amusing. I’m gonna steal this idea. Thanks for sharing it.

    1. I hope you do steal it Heidi, I was able to kill 2 birds with one stone here. And now the poor guy has become a legend. Haha!!

  21. This is SUCH an ingenious craft! And the pumpkins are gorgeous as well. Your vignette is quite happy and whimsical, just right for bringing a smile:) Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm!

  22. Now that is funny! I’d like to see a whole pumpkin patch with hats and faces drawn on. Anyone have a friend with a pumpkin patch that can take joke for a funny photo?! Thanks for the laugh!

  23. I like the dark hat as it seems to be a more Halloween color combo! If I did one, I’d use a washable marker; his paranoia could be so bad, he could completely disappear!

  24. I loved the dark hat best as it seemed more of a Halloween color combo! I’d use a washable marker so he coulld disappear completely!

  25. i saw this craft on Donna’s Funky Junk Interiors link party last night and nearly fell off my chair laughing! this is SO hysterical – and i love your storytelling to accompany the project how-to. well done, Mary!
(it would also be funny if the pumpkins surrounding him were real carved pumpkins with scary faces – he’d be hiding to save his skin… um, i mean guts! LOL)
