Last week I took a trip with my family into the heart of the city. And today I will share with you Christmas in the heart of the city. Ιt was decked out in all of it's Christmas splendor. There was much to see as we walked through the streets. Uncommon Christmas trees with bows. Even the olive trees were all dressed up! While traditional Christmas trees were left bare on the balconies. Red was everywhere! A bike draped with lights and hung for good cheer! The windows displaying their finest. In the heart of the city, the window displays were bursting with gifts! And as befitting Greek tradition, a boat all lit up and ready to sail. And lest we forget... "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night". I want to wish the happiest of holidays, much health and love to everyone. I will be back again after a short break. This blog would not exist without all of you and I sincerely thank you for making it such a pleasure for me to be here with you. Mary - I am finally getting a chance to get caugh up wih your blog today. Thanks so much for sharing these photos. How beautiful. When we lived in Spain, no one had Christmas trees - but we always found a way to improvise. Have a very wonderful holiday - and I'm looking forward to more of your posts in 2016!

Susan we have become very westernized over here. The traditional way to celebrate Christmas is with the lights on the boats. But as it is now, you cannot tell this is Greece, the streets are full of western style decorations. I feel right at home. When we first moved here no one had trees.

Hi Mary how lovely it looks where you live! I just adore the Christmas decorations that each City has. We have travelled during December to Europe and East Coast USA and I love looking at the beautiful Christmas lights on display in the shop windows and main centres. Thank you for sharing your city's display. I wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas and peaceful and happy New Year. Thanks for linking up at OvertheMoon and see you in the New Year.

Thank you Sue. I too love this time of year and have many fond memories of life in New York and all the amazing displays there. Of course, here it's on a much smaller scale but it is still something that brightens the spirit. Merry Christmas and stay cool!

Hello Lynn, It is not Athens but a much smaller city in western Greece. Did you know that half of the population of Greece lives in Athens? It is so crowded there with lots of pollution. I would not live there if you paid me. We have managed to become very westernized here, so it is no surprise that we see the sign. Also everyone learns English as a second language. In the 20 years that I've been here we went from being Greece to a colonly of the western world. Much change and we seem to have lost a lot of the flavor of the culture. Now if that is good or bad, well that is a whole other discussion. I too am very happy to have met you. By reaching out we can all learn so much from each other. Merry Christmas my twin friend. And a happy and bright 2016!

Yes Katrin, this is a bigger city about an hour away from where I live. I also love the bike and was so surprised to see it hanging on the column out in the street. At least we don't lack imagination. I hope you will bring back pictures from Germany. It will be magical there. I've seen pictures of the castles in the mountains. Breathtaking!! Happy Holidays to you and your family with lots of love!!

It's always fun to walk around and see how someone else uses their imagination to decorate. I especially thought the bicycle with the lights was ingenious. You too Celeste, have a wonderful holiday and think of me in New England... I'll be there in spirit.

I am loving all of the Christmas decorations and displays...especially the bicycle. I was going to comment on how funny it was that the most Christmas-y trees aren't decorated until I read the comments and understood why. It is always interesting to discover how other nations and/or cultures observe something that so many observe, but in so many different ways. Merry Christmas, and enjoy love, peace, joy, and promise!

Thank you Regina. This country has changed so much in the last 20 years and we have become very westernized, but with our own twist. When I first got here there were no Christmas trees to be seen. Now we have become an amalgamation of cultures, a bit of the east and a dash of west. Merry Christmas to you too!

Just lovely! There's nothing quite like town dressed up for the holidays, is there? Everything just looks so magical. Enjoy your break, I too have stepped back a bit this season, trying to take it all in with my family as it goes by so quickly! Merry Christmas Mary and thank you for the sweet comments you always leave for me. They really do mean a lot! :)

Doreen I must say I was really surprised by the variety of decorations in the city. It is full of imagination and beauty! And yes I liked the bicycle the best as well. It had a bit of a rustic quality to it painted white like that. Have a great time at the coast, I know it's not very cold in New York right now, unlike last year where they got pummeled with snow. Merry Christmas to you and yours!!
