Sharing is caring!
I hope you are all enjoyingthe Christmas tours and celebrations. As I had mentioned last time, today I’m going to share with you how I created the little Christmas tree centerpiece. My daughter calls it “the roasted Christmas tree” and you’ll see why.
I already had the little tree and remembered that every year I used to put it into a little can but it kept on falling over. Not only that but there was no balance in the composition. As many of you probably know I have a basement that won’t quit, so on my last trip there I found this old roasting pot.
I gathered my girls and a friend of theirs and we got to work. These lovelies were created using toilet paper rolls. I have my friend Pili of Sweet things to thank for this idea. Once we shaped them into this candy shape, we painted them white and red and then added the pretty ribbons. Aren’t they just adorable? I don’t normally gush over my creations but these take the cake!
They were then placed inside the pot on top of pretty plaid fabric that looks like an old print from the 50’s.
The pot was dry brushed with an apple red/white color. I created this oval shape using blackboard paint and after it dried I was able to write on it. Not a good job but we revel in imperfection around here.

Now it was time to decorate the tree. Did I mention my bottomless pit basement? I also found these. Now these are definitely vintage to go with my old fashioned little roasted tree.
Using chalk paint I painted them white.
I found an old tassel and used it to thread the keys through in order to hang them. You know nothing goes to waste in my house.
The keys were the last detail to be added to the tree.
When my oldest girl saw the centerpiece she said “Are you going to roast the tree?” And thus we have the roasted Christmas tree.
What do you think of my roasted Christmas tree, does it hark back to the 50’s? Now if those little boxes were potatoes maybe we could at least roast something, if not the tree. Check back next time to see details of my actual Christmas tree.

Good Thursday morning Mary! How is Greece today? How cool is it that you have a basement that keeps giving up all these fantastic treasures!? Are these treasures from previous owners? Your 'roasted' Christmas tree is perfection, even if you 'revel' in imperfections (which is a phrase I just love!) Christmas is clearly in full swing in the Kalpos home. Enjoy!

They are things that I have inherited from grandparents and other things that just accumulated. I'm not even sure how some of them ended up there. I'm just thankful that my point of view changed and I now see them as hidden treasures. Yes, I do have an affinity for the broken and imperfect. Enjoy your movies tonight!

I was amazed what you did with the TP rolls. I was looking at the little packages, wondering what they were, before you explained it. You get extra points for creativity and being "green". The pot really works and I like the NOEL.. its perfect. What a fun basement you have.

Krista, I like the green points. And how about all of that stuff that I drag up from the basement. It would have gone unused otherwise. I'm very happy with my finds now that I can see outside the box. I'm so happy you stopped by!

Keri thanks for your sweet words. Now you see why I was fretting all this time. The keys were spotted while I was leaving the basement with the pot...lucky me that my eye caught them. :)
