I grabbed that old wire rack and took it with me on my way to the farm. This is where I do most of my painting, and of course I forgot to take a “before” picture. So I have found a stock photo from Google (thank God for Google) to show you what it looked like before, just imagine it with lots of rust!
I tied the twine on the side and added a blackboard label that I had purchased from Micheal’s.

Such a great idea Mary and it’s the perfect shape to hold folders. Love how you added the twine around the top to give it that rustic look
Everything looks better with twine Michelle! 😉
What a great idea! What a great way to organize papers, it beats the massive paper pile I have currently!
It really is a great and stylish little organizer Audra!
What an innovative idea…Mary, you amaze me with the things you come up with that are so simple! Sometimes I find myself thinking…what would Mary do with this? So you are an inspiration, my friend.
This one was super simple Florence and yet it made such a difference. Thank you for your sweet words my friend!
I was READY to see what you had came up with on this dish drainer project! Love it! You’ve got my head to spinning now on different things. I thought; such a neat idea to fancy it up as you did with dishes and actually have dishes in it for a party. Oh the idea! Thanks for sharing. Pinning this one my friend. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
Cindy thank you for the pin. And yes you are absolutely right, we can use it for it’s original purpose but all gussied up!
What a wonderful idea! such a simple style, would fit anywhere and be so useful! xx
Yes Jen this has been with me for three years now and I’m still getting lots of use out of it.
Old and useful Mary, great idea for holding files. Happy Easter.
Joy
Thank you Joy! We never throw anything out! Happy Easter to you too!
What a great upcycle!! The twine and added label have my heart! 🙂 Thanks so much for linking up Mary!
Mary, I recently used wrapped jute twine for one of my projects. I really like how your organizer turned out. Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm–pinned!
Love, love, love this! So cute, and I could definitely use this in my office to organize my folders that I use the most! You are so clever! Thank you for sharing at Celebrate It!
Thanks for linking up with Homestyle Gathering, Mary! Love seeing the posts that were done before I met you! 😉
What a fun repurposing project.
I really like this idea to repurpose an old dish rack, Mary! Like several folks mentioned above, I am amazed at all the ideas you come up with using simple items found in anyone’s home. Love this repurposed rack because it can hold really large legal size folders! When we were in our house, I seemed to always have kids’ school photo packets from the school photographers in a stack that were too big to fit in a file drawer. Large legal size flatlay envelopes would fit good in there and be tidy, too. I do get a bit crazy with untidy! Papers drive me crazy… 😉 Thank you for a very inspiring idea ~ of course I pinned and will schedule for later, too! 😀
This is awesome, Mary! I love the combination of the black and the twine. Elegant and rustic!
And super practical Kim! I have it on a table with a ton of papers stuffed into it.
This looks so good Mary. You did an amazing job, so creative!
Thanks Cristina this was one of my first projects.
I love twine too! It’s always nice to know there’s someone else out there who shares the same quirky ‘loves’. I have been known to use it to cover jars (time consuming!) but I love your ideas, as always Mary.

Twine makes everything warmer Doreen! I am always looking for ways to use it.
Thanks for linking this up to the Welcome Home Wednesdays link party! A little bit of twine completely transformed this!! It looks great! Thanks for sharing…we hope to see you again next week!
Thanks for visiting, I really love how this turned out too and now I love using twine on many projects. Will see you next week!
Great idea! Love the rustic look!
Thanks Dori, so glad you came by to visit!
Mary,
What a great repurposing idea!!
Thanks Keri. Very easy and very practical!
Mary, this is soooooo clever! I’m in LOVE with this and want to collect a few myself for this very reason! Featuring you this weekend on Party Junk. 🙂
Hi Donna, I’ve been a fan for a while now, so happy to have you visiting me. I am honored that you are featuring my little “throw away”. Thanks so much!
Great idea, now I know what to grap from a discarded dish machine.
Thanks Fabiola, This one was done at the last minute, because I did not have anyting to upload for a post, and yet, it has proved to be a treausre for me – it is so functional!
This is beautiful!
Thanks Anastsia!
You know what, i would never look at an old dish rack and think with a lick of paint and a little twine this would make a good file holder. You really do have a knack for seeing things differently!
I am still using it and it is so practical but now it’s also pretty. Thank you Julie!
I love it Mary! You are a genius, you are always coming up with some kind of awesome repurpose project. I like how you added that rhyme around the top, and the cute chalkboard tag. This so neat I could sure use one of these in my craft room.
I find that sometimes simple is best Linda. As in this case. It has held up remarkably well and I’m still using it.
it may be “simple,” but i love it…i just happen to have extra dish drainers…one black, one red, one bronze, and one white! i switch off according to my mood….the bronze one i am using as a plate rack and i really love it!!! you have given me a great idea and inspiration…thanks for sharing..
Lucky you I wish I had some extra dish drainers. I love the way it holds all of my files and paint supplies as well.
Thank you so much for sharing with us at the Creative Craft Challenge! You are featured and we are so excited to see your crafts linked up!
Thanks so much Robin. It means a lot to me coming from someone as talented as you.
Such a cute idea! I never have a good place for those pesky files… this would be perfect! Thanks for linking up with us at Welcome Home Wednesdays… can’t wait to see you next week!
Thanks for visiting Betsy. Yes this has come in very handy. And see you next week!
love it! So rustic yet simple and so totally useful for a zillion things! The black paint and the twine really look good together, great contrast! Thanks for sharing the inspiration at the creative craft challenge!
Thank you ladies, it was a last minute project that turned out great and very functional! I guess sometimes you don’t know what you’ll end up with when you do it spontaneously.
