This is a fringed fleece scarf.  It has been pulled so much that it goes all the way down to my knees.  It was time to find another purpose for it other than taking up space in my dresser.

Basically I just folded the scarf and tie the fringes together.

Here is what they look like.

It’s a little time consuming so you can watch something on tv while tying the fringe.  My choice for today was Vampire Diaries… because I have teens!

After tying all the fringe of one side I cut 1/3 of it. I refolded the 2/3rd and tied the bottom fringes.  The final step was to add the top part.

And I had a pocket. You can do it any way at all, as long as you are  tying the fringes.  I did it this way because I wanted  that particular shape to my pillow.

I stuffed the pocket with a pillow, and closed it by sewing it.  Yes, my method was not a no-sew. You could also use  glue.

So I cheated a little, but at least now I’ve got a beautiful and cool almost no-sew fleece pillow to give as a Christmas gift.  Who am I kidding: I’m gonna keep it for myself.

    1. Thanks Leanne. I like how it turned out so much. I took it ouside to the balcony to photograph it and the wind was blowing. My daughter was listening to a song and it had these lyrics about “Farah Faucet Hair” and I thought about how my pillow had her hair too! Now why am I telling you all this? Lol!!

  6. You have me beat! My family makes fun of me for starting my Christmas shopping so early, usually in July or August, but then I am finish before the craziness of Black Friday begins. I really like this pillow – I wasn’t sure how you were going to pull it off but of course, as always, you did.

    1. Krista this is my first time doing something like this. I must admit when I first heard about this I thought it was a little crazy, but now that I’ve started I can see the benefits involved and it is a lot of fun.

  8. Good Afternoon Mary, When I read that you had joined a Christmas Blog Hop, I thought I must have arrived at the wrong page and then when I went on to read, I thought what a brilliant idea. To make one Christmas gift per month is such a good idea. At the moment I am making a Christmas quilt for my daughter, which is almost finished, so that is my first gift…. I’ll have to think of others…. and I can think of a friend who will love your fleece pillow…. it is a brilliant idea.
I smiled when you said you were watching Vampire Diaries because you have teenagers at home…. it was the same for me when our daughters were teenagers, I watched all sorts of things which I wouldn’t normally watch, but it was fun watching with the girls.
    Have a lovely day.
    Best Wishes
    Daphne

    1. Daphne, that’s what I had said too when they proposed this to me… isn’t it too early for Christmas. And yet, here I am making gifts from now. And I’m so thankful for the blog hop because it really helps to have someone cracking the whip so it will all be done by the time Christmas rolls around. And you see, we’re not so crazy after all, A quilt takes time and you’re almost finished! Thanks so much for dropping in. Btw, we are now watching War and Peace on bbc! Really great and they have the time to tell it well because it’s a mini-series.

  9. Mary, This DIY pillow is such a clever idea! I would have never thought of making a pillow from a scarf, and I am always remaking my pillows. I am pinning and sharing on facebook. I love it!!

    1. I’ve gotta admit, it was a brain storm for me. It just sort of hit me as I was staring at the scarf. And I put the idea together with my friend’s original blanket tutorial.

  10. Oh my gosh, Mary, you are so ahead of the game! Christmas gifts already? Talk about organized! I love how you turned a scarf into a pillow! It looks quite comfy!

  11. Mary, The pillow turned out very nicely! One of the things I love about blogging is seeing and getting inspiration from so many talented ladies. Thanks for sharing with us at Brag About It!

    1. Kim, by the time December rolls around I’ll be all set, if I don’t keep everything for myself.

    1. Michele, when I heard of this idea I thought it was crazy to start planning for Christmas from now. But once I started on this project I realized the benefits. So it looks I’ll be following along with the rest of my blogging friends.

  12. That’s so clever! If you didn’t have a scarf I suppose you could use a piece of fleece and cut a fringe in it yourself to tie together πŸ™‚

    1. That was the original idea Anna. If you look at the link I’ve included you can see tht my friends originally made blankets out of fleece and just cut the fringes themselves. A very easy way to do it.

    1. I have to say Cecilia I was surprised that it turned out so well. Next time I’ll have to look at the scarves more carefully.

  13. Mary, what a great idea to make one gift the month so you’re not scrambling at Christmas time. I wish that I was more proactive in this area, especially when I’m up till all hours of the night on Christmas Eve, and while I’m sleeping through my first cup of coffee on Christmas morning. I love the creativity in this pillow it has such interesting texture and I love the way it looks. I think I need to go find myself a French scarf because I need one of these pillows ASAP!

    1. I cannot fool you Nikki, I am usually not one for doing Christmas so early but these ladies here have a great idea. And if I follow through with it, it’ll be a win-win for me. So why not. I’ll end up with a bunch of useful things for Christmas and if I am so inclined I may even give them as gifts.

  14. This is a great idea to repurpose an old scarf. That’s very organised of you Mary to start on your Christmas presents already (even if you did keep this one yourself!)

    1. It is so soft and fluffy almost like a plush toy. I love the way it feels, now my kids have stolen it for their room.

  15. Another great project made using something you already have – and what a difference!
I like to make Christmas gifts all year so it’s not a mad rush but then people keep going and having birthdays which messes up my cunning plans! Or worse, like you I decide to keep it for myself.

  16. Great way to use up a scarf. The fringes are cute, I can see it on a little ones bed with some bird embroidered on it. Its really cute Mary.

    1. It has been sitting on my daughter’s bed for over a year now. I try to steal it every once in a while but she won’t let me.

  17. What a great idea, Mary–I just love how your pillow turned out. I’ll be keeping my eye out for similar, fringed scarves, for sure! I’m partial to scarf crafts πŸ™‚ Thanks for linking up your project with us at Vintage Charm–

  18. This pillow cover is such a cute idea, Mary! Love the soft fringe and I imagine it is super comfortable to snuggle up with on the sofa… πŸ˜‰ Happily pinned. <3
    Happy New Year's hugs,
    Barb πŸ™‚

  19. This is super cool! I with I had thought of it! Its a shame you can’t reupholster an old chair by just tying knots in fleece!

    1. That would be a dream project indeed since typing knots is so much easier. Thanks for stopping by.

  20. I love a great up-cycle. I would have never thought to use the scarf for a pillow. Looks great! Happy New Year, Kippi
