Sharing is caring!
Spring is such a wonderful time of the year. The flowers are a bloomin, the birds are chirping and the stores are all full of lots of fun items that we can craft with. I spotted these cute wooden gift bags at Michael’s the other day and was immediately smitten!
Spring is also the time for gift giving to friends.
And while we are on the subject of gifts, Mother’s Day is almost here.
Today I’m sharing my idea for gift giving with pretty wooden gift bags.

What I Used:
I wanted to give these bags as gifts to a few special friends and so I bought these wood letters for their initials along with the wooden bags.
The How To:
This was such an easy project, it took just about an hour to do it. I first painted the wooden bags using chalky finish paint. I prefer it because it dries super fast. In fact I had done about three coats in under half an hour.
I also painted the lettering using acrylic paint in colors that I knew my friends would like. (And just in case my kids are reading this… your mother likes all things blue).
I added cream wax to the wooden bags to seal in the chalky finish paint.
The final step was to glue on the lettering.
And of course add some pretty ribbons!
Now let’s remember these are gift bags! So gifts were placed inside the bags.
In fact they would make great gifts for Mom! As if I haven’t stressed that enough.
The addition of these pretty springtime bouquets of faux flowers also adds a happy note. And once the soap or lotion gifts have been removed the wooden bag and flowers can stand alone as decor.
Not only was I able to gift the soaps to my friends but more importantly they will not have bags to throw away. Instead they get to keep the wooden gift bags as decor and for future use. Now that is a win-win in my book and Mother Nature is looking down at my right now with a smile on her face. I deserve one of these for Mother’s Day just for being so eco friendly! “wink” Don’t you?
I hope you will consider gift giving with these pretty wooden gift bags. And drop by Mad’s Soaps Etsy shop and let’s support our independent creatives!

WHere did you purchase those great wooden gift bags?
Mary,
What a sweet gift! I love that the wood gift bag is re-useable in so many ways. Pinned!
Exactly it is the gift that keeps on giving! Thank you Wendi!
These are so sweet & attractive Mary! I’m sure I’d want one too. I’ve never seen these at Michael’s…probably b/c I hardly ever go IN Michael’s, LOL. You’ve made them so pretty. I hope you got one for Mother’s Day or Easter. Surely you did after all those hints!
Haha! Florence no bags, but I did get some butter cream to keep my skin soft. And they cooked for me all day. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to enjoy the day surrounded by all the kids.
Such a cute idea Mary. The bag is a gift itself even without anything in!
Yes that is exactly what I thought Katerina when I spotted it.
This is such a unique take on gift bags and I love it. Your timing is impeccable…tis the season of gift giving. Happy Mother’s Day, Mary!
Thank you so much Erica. I had such a wonderful day I am still recovering!
I just had to pop back over as I could not see an email address to tell you that you have no clue how you made my day with your sweet comment on my DIY Teepee. Coming from the QUEEN (YOU) of DIY…that made me smile and big! Thank you! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
Aww Cindy I meant every word. It was such an adorable idea and execution!!
Such a cute idea for Mother’s day but also for a gift to a friend! The colors are perfect also. Bravo my friend!
Yes these are the favorite colors of my friends and they are also very spring colors. They were very happy with their gifts.
Mary, this is a darling project. So many ways to use it. Thanks for sharing at Happiness is Homemade Link Party 269,
Thank you Carol. I am all about multiple uses for things.
Hi Mary, I’ve never heard of wooden gifts bags before, but what a nice reusable idea. Simple, but effective.
xx
They are available at the Michael’s craft store here in the states. I could easily spend a whole day in there.
Mary,
Thanks so much for stopping by!! Can you beleive that I went back to Dollar Tree and found more things that were not put out for sale before!!
Hugs
Deb
These are so pretty! What a lovely idea!
Happy Tuesday, Mary!
Looks like a great idea! Endless uses! Have a great week.
Very practical yes indeed!
Hello Mary,
I was looking for your latest post. Do you have another blog? The wooden gift bags are such a cute Idea. Really creative project and the colors are pretty. Thanks for visiting my blog. Enjoy your day, wishing you a great new week!
Thanks Eileen. I also post photo essays on this blog. They are all under the gallery tab. Or you can find them under photography.
I love this idea of giving decor instead of gift bags! Plus you can totally personalize the “bag”/”box” so that it fits the person you are giving it to! I always feel like bags, boxes, paper, cards, etc are such a waste, because they cost so much and the receiver just throws them away. :-/
You are so right Mandy. I always try to waste as little as possible.
Mary just checking to see if you’re doing okay. I have seen a new blog post in a few months.

Angie, thank you for reaching out. I have been very busy with life and I am also working outside the home so I am really very busy.
Mary.
Thanks so much for stopping by and for taking the time to leave such a sweet comment.
Hugs,
Debbie
Thank you Debbie!
I bet your friends loved getting these Mary. What a sweet gift idea. They can be re-used and re-purposed over and over too!
Yes that was the initial idea Katrin. And they are such a cute size!!
What a cute gift and DIY! I wish I was better at crafts.
This was a super easy DIY anyone can do it.
Mary these gift bags are adorable – I’d love them as a gift even if they were empty!
Carol I agree with you 100%
These are adorable. Who wouldn’t like to get this? I will keep this in mind for upcoming occasions.
Yes! There is so much to see at this store that anytime I go in I am instantly inspired.
These are just the cutest thing, Mary! I haven’t been to Michael’s in a long time since we’ll be moving soon. But I just love these wooden bags!
They were such a find Julie. I need to get some more before they run out.
These personalized wooden gift bags are so pretty, Mary! Love the Spring colors and who doesn’t love handmade soap. Pinned 🙂
I am so glad that these little cuties inspired me to give these gifts. It is usually the other way around but not this time. I just had to find an excuse to buy the wooden bags.
These are a really cute idea. I love chalk paint for many reasons. Hopefully the kids got your hint.
Enjoy
Cindy
I hope so too Cindy but we will see what Sunday brings.
What a cute idea, Mary! Your wooden bags are very pretty and unique!
Thanks so much Gail. The whole idea started when I spotted these cuties.

Thank you Lauren. I have so many paper bags that I am always reusing its time to find an environmentally friendly way to give gifts.
What cute little gift bags, and I love the fact that they can be used later as decor! I hope your family heard and you get a pretty gift bags full of soaps and lotions for Mothers Day!
I hope so too Linda, but I am equally glad that I got to give these gifts.
This is a lovely way to give a gift. I like the idea of something like this that can be kept long term.
I do too, we have so much that is thrown away right after we open it.
Mary, these are just the sweetest! I adore the colors, too.
The colors are for my friends and their taste!
What a great idea!
Thank you Kelly Anne. And they are so cute!
This little “bags” are darling, Mary! I love things like that — things that can be used well after. (And sometimes I think if I get one more paper bag, I’ll have enough to open a bag store, even when I use them again!)
I know what you mean Jeanie about all those bags. I have the same problem with the plastic bags. I save them all and reuse them all the time. But even so they always double bag at some stores which is ridiculous!
Now if that isn’t just the cutest idea for a gift bag I have ever seen! Wow! A gift bag that can be kept and reused for other things. Love it! Happy Day to you dear lady. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
Thank you Cindy. I was tickled pink when I spotted these. Happy Mother’s Day to you!!
This is an adorable gift wrapping idea. These little gift bags would be so handy in a closet to hold little accessories like gloves or closet sachets. Such a cute idea.
Ohh Leanna that is such a clever idea. I’ll have to go back and look for some more!
Super sweet and clever idea, Mary! Your friends are blessed!
Thank you so much Julie, and happy Mother’s Day to you!
They are sooooo adorable Mary and what a lovely way to give a gift that will keep on giving even after that yummy sounding soap is all done. I’m going to pop into that Etsy shop you mentioned. I have this thing for handmade soaps
That is exactly what I thought Michelle. I just love that cute little shape of those bags.
