Last year I was visiting my sons in New York. But before I left them I put up their Christmas tree and in general, spruced up the place, because no one can do it as well as mom. I had put the tree in the corner but the space behind it looked too empty.
Of course the Christmas tree is not complete without the choo choo train circling round it.
Φυσικά, το χριστουγεννιάτικο δέντρο δεν είναι πλήρης χωρίς το τρενάκι να κάνει κύκλους γύρω από αυτό.
Ίσως τα Πουλιά των Χριστουγέννων έκαναν νοικοκύρεμα επειδή το δέντρο μοιάζει πολύ καλύτερο. Έχετε παρατηρήσει καμιά δραστηριότητα ξωτικών στα σπίτια σας;

Nicely done, Mary. The colors are just perfect. It’s always nice to have another way of adding nature to our decorations. #waywow
Yes it added just the right touch, especially in that empty corner.
I love those pretty colorful pictures!
Thank you for sharing this week at Brag About It link party on VMG206 (Mondays at Midnight).
~ Megin of VMG206
Megin it was those pretty colors that prompted me to add them to the frame.
Mary, that’s such a lovely idea, and really makes a focal point of that corner. Love very much. Thanks for sharing at Five Star Frou-Frou. Love, Mimi xxx
Mimi, that corner was so bare it was freezing! This added a bit of warmth to the room. xoxo
Boy do I love all your winter bird cards. Maybe if I go digging can find some of those same images at The Graphics Fairy. Would be pretty in our living room or our bedroom. Your tree is pretty and the train reminds me of when I was kid at Christmas. Enjoy and have great holiday season
Thanks you so much Jane Ellen. Ialso am reminded of being a kid when I look at that train. The winter bird cards were part of a free package that are sent to homes asking for dontations. They turned out to be very useful. Have a wonderful holiday season.
Your sons must have been so happy to have you put up a tree and decorate with a lovely frame. I’m sure it made them feel like they were at home.
Yes Erlene, at home with mom. Because now that I’m gone it’s back to bachelorhood ways for them. I would bet they don’t remember where they stored the tree.
Hi Mary,
I just love the cards, they are all so pretty and they do look like Christmas birds! Love how you framed it too!
The tree looks really pretty, and the train below is such a neat touch…I have never seen a train under a tree like that before and just love it!
I hope that you had a wonderful weekend!!
Hugs, Kimberley
Kimberly, There are actually 2 trains. One was bought at the estste sale but it didn’t work so my son decided to buy another one complete with a track to put under the tree. Kind of reminds me of the Polar Express.
You took an old frame and some cardboard and turned it into a focal point that was oh so appropriate for the season. It looks lovely, and the birds are so colorful and detailed!
I didn’t know you had two sons living in NY. Next time you visit let me know!
xxx
Doreen when I first found your blog the thing that jumped out at me was that you were from the Northeast.. There are not many bloggers from New England (at least that I know about). I’ll definitely let you know. xxx
Love this, Mary!! The prints of the birds are fantastic and look just perfect next to your tree. Appreciate you bringing this to Snickerdoodle Sunday so I could see it!!
Thank you Sarah. I thought it was just the right touch for that empty wall, behind the tree.
Mary, your boys are so lucky to have you. You make sure that they have all they need and spoil them a bit too, the perfect mom. I love that this is Christmasy but not girly, and the frame is awesomely aged!!!
BTW, did you make the slipcover for the chair? I love the pattern!!!
Nikki, the chair is an old recliner. It’s about ready to fall apart. But I slipcovered it as best as I could. The fabric is from Ikea. So if you have one near you… run!! I love that store. It’s a life saver.
An inspired fix for that lonely wall. Great idea! I am a bird nut so anything with birds works for me. The “choo-choo” train around the tree is a plus. I hope your son and family have a wonderful holiday season.
Thanks so much Deborah. This was done a few years back, and now we are re-united and spending the holidays together.
I love it 🙂 So festive! You will be featured tomorrow in the To grandma’s house we go link party, thanks for sharing with us, hope to see you there!
Love the idea of using beautiful cards for something lovely on the wall.
Clever idea. Happy Holidays!
This is a lovely picture. It sure added to the joy of the Christmas tree.
For a young man’s Christmas tree this looks pretty awesome Mom. They have a tree, that’s a wonderful start.
Such a perfect touch to back it with linen! You impress me all the time…
Yes, it needed a little texture since there is no glass to cover it. It looks pretty good for the holidays doesn’t it?
Mary, the cards are beautiful and you arranged them so nicely! Love! Thank you for sharing. You are one of the features at the Make it Pretty Monday party at The Dedicated House. Here is the link to this week’s bash. http://www.thededicatedhouse.com/2015/12/make-it-pretty-monday-week-160.html Hope you are having a lovely week. Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse
Thank you so much Kathryn. It’s an honor to be featured on your blog.I’ll be dropping over to link up again! As I do every week.
Gorgeous! Visiting from Make it Pretty Monday.
Thanks Amy. You see how you can turn the simplest thing into something special when it’s framed.
Such pretty artwork Mary. I am a big fan of estate sales! Such treasures are found. Thanks for partying with us at Talented Tuesday.
Cheers,
AJ
I had such a great time there but most of the things which were spectacular were out of my price range. Except for this frame and the little train. At least I found something I could make my own.
That’s such a good find that frame. I too like the way the birds are in the winter setting.
The train was a great find. It looks fab under the tree. Frames it nicely.

#LifeLovingLinkie
That’s what it’s all about Sally, creating special memories for the family. I’m sure that ttrain set will be with us for a long time.
An easy way to add color & interest.
Thanks for sharing at Funtastic Friday!
Much meeded color Chris, the wall was off balance. On the other side I had a few frames and there behind the tree there was nothing.
I love the collage of the birds in Winter – beautiful idea 🙂
And Ilka, they do look Christmasy, right? The colors are just right. At least that’s what I was hoping for.
What a great mum you are to put the tree up for them. The birds of Christmas picture is inspired. I love the bird pictures, they’re the kind of thing I’d buy and then never find a use for, so this is a brilliant idea 🙂
Robyn, I always try to find a use for things that are around, to shop at home so to speak. That’s why I stared the blog. Frugal solutions. Now this project was done last year around this time, and I hadn’t started the bog yet, but it was fermenting….
Perfectly decorated. looking awesome 🙂
Thank you, I hope it stays that way!
That was a lovely idea. I would certainly leave the frame up at least until spring. It is an inexpensive way to have unique artwork or to use postcards we all seem to collect and put away in the drawer. Your idea made your son’s place a home. There is nothing like a mom’s loving touch.
Yes Debra, that’s what I set out to do. I helped the organize and clean up and then after all the work was done, it was time to have some fun and decorate. Of course I’m not going to hold my breath that everything is as perfect as the way I left it.
I love how you decorated their place for them…nothing better than a mom’s touch! 🙂
That’s right Kim, eventually the girlfriends will take over, but for now it’s moms word.
Beautiful art and a beautiful tree! Happy Holidays, Mary!
Thank you Jas. It fills up an empty space so the room doesn’t look lopsided.
That was a great way to use the frame! It turned out really nice. I used to work in retail during Christmas (when my kids were in college) so I made them put up the tree when they got home (I didn’t have the time). But you are correct..nobody does it as well as mom!
Which makes me wonder Krista, if they will put it up this year now that I can’t be with them. It’s really tough when they live so far away.
Mary, you are right, nobody does things better than moms! 🙂 The birds of Christmas are awesome!!!! I love the frame and Cardinals are my fave. The tree looks beautiful!! Great job!!
Ahh, you have a soft spot for the Cards… I get it. I was always a Mets fan. Now back to Christmas. I made me so happy that I was able to do this for them before I left.
I Love that frame with the bird pictures! We love the birds around our home that visit us and I never dreamed I would be a bird watcher. Great idea!
Pattty, I really liked the cards. But I’ll tell you a story, one day I had the balcony door opened and a bird flew into my house. It went and sat on top of my wall unit and would not leave no matter what I did… It must have taken it about an hour to leave the house and then it went out side to the balcony. I suspect it was a caged bird that got out by mistake and had no way to get back home.
This is perfectly done 🙂 Thank you for sharing with us!
Thanks so much. And thanks for all the great blogging tips!
The little train makes your tree magical.
It does Joy, makes all the difference in the world.
Mary, Great use of an old frame! The bird cards are lovely and do make a perfect grouping for a festive winter scene. Thanks for sharing with us at Snickerdoodle Sunday! Pinning & Tweeting 🙂
Have a great week!
~Laurie
Thank you so much Laurie. I really like the red, white and blue combination.
That’s a great idea, Mary. I love using cards of all kinds for decorating. The birds of Christmas is such a unique idea. Pinned and Tweeted. Thanks for partying with us at Snickerdoodle Sunday.
I got these cards for free, and they were so pretty I just wanted to use them for something. I felt they were in the Christmas spirit.
Mary, what a great idea! Simple project with a big impact–love it! Thank you for sharing @Vintage Charm!
Thanks Cecilia. It was very simple and it filled up that empty space on the wall.
Lovely. My mom’s cottage on cape cod has the most amazing Cardinals in the winter. So I agree you cards are perfect. Perhaps some artificial clip on birds would be put on the tree? They could be made to be decorating it with ribbons, or string. Last year I used tiny white doves to hold ornaments to my chandelier.
Josephine that sounds just magical. Using the birds on the trees and in the chandelier. Unfortunately for me, I’m not with my boys this year so I have no idea what they are going to do with the tree.
How pretty are those birds? This is so beautiful, and such a lovely way to add a little bit of mother’s touch to the place!
Yes Celeste. Mom knows best, but when she’s not there the mice will get sloppy 😉
Mary I love the bird cards! And the frame! You did a wonderful job, they are just perfect for Christmas and winter!!! And what a happy and colourful tree…I love the train going around it 😉
Katrin, I forgot to mention that I saw a train at the sale and bought it, but then my son wanted a whole set so we ended up with this. That tain made me so happy!
