Untangling the Wires with Upcycled Storage

Sharing is caring!

I’m sure everyone has the following problem.  Too many phone chargers and other wires that get all tangled up!  And so today I will show you how I untangled my wires by upcycling cardboard cereal boxes!

I solved this problem by using some left over cereal boxes.

I measured the height that I wanted and I cut the top off .

I cut the sides and folded them in.

I did this with three boxes and then stapled them together.

I glued on some pretty fabric that I had using regular white glue.  I glued it all around…

I then took a cardboard and cut it into 3 pieces, making sure the width was less then the height of the cereal boxes. Each cardboard piece was perforated into 3 sections.

This would help me to bend them into squares.

I was then able to insert each of the squares into one of the cereal boxes.

And this is the end result.  A pretty organizer for the phone charger and other miscellaneous wires.

As you can see  this project cost next to nothing to make.  It was an easy solution to a very annoying organization problem.  I save so much time now that I don’t have to untangle wires. Hope  this inspires you to try it.

This is such a great idea seems like I always have cords here and there but when I need them they are no where to be found lol. Thanks for sharing at the Bloggers Pit Stop, hope to see you next week.

  2. I needed this yesterday Mary as I was taking down the Christmas lights. What a great idea and so easy to do – it will certainly help organize all those wires that we keep accumulating with each new technology purchase. Happy New Year and thank you for sharing with us at #BloggersPitStop

  3. That’s such a neat idea Mary. We seem to have cables all over the place and it looks like a viper’s nest at the moment. Plus we have a new puppy to who seems endlessly fascinated by all these black cables and before she bites them we’d best make a plan

    • Mary says:

Aww how sweet. The puppy is definitely a good idea to get those wires organized. I will have to do this again in NY since I have even more wires here.

  4. Lisa says:

This reminds me of my post on ways to use a wine bag – and cords like this are probably my favorite way!

  5. Florence says:

This is a good one! Good organization & no cost. Cereal boxes come in handy for repurposing. I’ve used them before to make picture mats.

  6. Nikki Gwin says:

Oh my goodness. We have wires and cords EVERYwhere! Great idea Mary.
    🙂 gwingal

    • Mary says:

Thank you Chey, I even stuff my sunglasses in there when there aren’t that many wires to sort. I’m glad I’ve inspired you.

  8. Cindy Magee says:

OOoo! I’m so trying this! What a great idea. I’ve tried so many storage solutions for all our chargers but end up throwing them in a round container with lid and it’s so annoying. Thanks for this idea!

    • Mary says:

I’m so happy to inspire. I know this is a real problem with the wires always getting tangled. Thanks for stopping by.

  9. Pili says:

I don’t know how but I missed this post. That idea is great, Mary, I think I need to do something similar because I’m getting crazy with all my wires!

Holly I solved a major problem with the tangled wires. Also, now that they all have a designated place we no longer lose them.

Jendi I am all about frugal solutions and banishing those annoying problems. Thanks for dropping by.

  30. Mary do you shop at “Lidl” as well??? I had to laugh cause I have the exact same cereals at home 🙂 so funny.
The idea is awesome, as usual, your ideas rock!!! I have a pretty basket for all the cables. Ha. But oh the mess it is in there! This is a great solution!!! I’ll collect Cereal boxes!!!

    • Mary says:

Katrin Lidl is my favorite store. Great prices and really great quality. In fact I buy a lot of my paints from there too. And of course you have to collect the cereal boxes, some of them are quite big.

  31. Anita says:

This is such an amazing idea! Thanks for sharing it. I’m Anita visiting from Cup of Morning Joe DIY Projects Recipes Link Party.

    • Mary says:

Anita thank you for visiting. This really works I have been wire tangle free for 8 months now.

  32. You come up with the best stuff, and I cannot image how big that scrap box is that you keep pulling these great pieces of fabric from! How cool is that! And cereal boxes to organizer!!! LOVE IT!!!

    • Mary says:

Nikki, the box is like a magic box, you pull and pull and it never gets empty. But the floor is riddled with fabric in no time. As for cereal boxes, I have so many now, and I am constantly looking for ways to reuse them.

  33. Lisa Ehrman says:

This is a great idea, and very frugal! My son would love one of these, because he hates wires that get tangled. Thanks for sharing at Together on Tuesdays!

    • Mary says:

My pleasure Lisa, thanks for your sweet comment. And this really works because I have had it for a w hile now and no more wire tangling.

  34. Debbie says:

I could make use of it.
Thanks a lot for the idea and for adding it to #tiptuesday .

  35. What a cute and frugal solution to this problem! I like it.

    • Mary says:

Thanks Jamie. And since then I have been vigilant with those wires having a home and there is no more mess.

  36. Great idea here! Thanks for linking up to Merry Monday! Sharing on our MM Pinterest Board! Have a great week!
    Kim

  37. Kristy says:

Such a simple idea. I’ve also seen using toilet paper rolls, but they are so tiny and, frankly, were in the bathroom. Yuck. This is much better.

    • Mary says:

Exactly Kristy, the toilet paper rolls are too small to hold the phone chargers, so I came up with my own home remedy. And it really works,I have been wire-tangle-free for 8 months now. Such a relief.

  38. Mimi says:

Nice one Mary! Thanks for sharing at Five Star Frou-Frou this week. Love, Mimi xxx

  39. Great idea! I need to do something like this asap…

    • Mary says:

This one is a very paractical solution and I guarantee that it will work as long as you put them in.

  41. Τέλεια ιδέα Μαίρη μου για να ξεχωρίσεις καλώδια που μας παιδεύουν και βρίσκονται παντού μέσα στο σπίτι.

    • Mary says:

Χριστίνα μου, έχω καιρό που το έφτιαξα και από τότε έχω απαλλαχτεί από τα καλώδια, και τώρα ξέρουμε που βρίσκονται αντί να τα ψάχνουμε όλη μέρα.

  42. AmberJane says:

Tangled wires drive me crazy so this is a great idea – Thanks for linking up to Pin Worthy Wednesday, I have pinned your post to the Pin Worthy Wednesday Pinterest Board.

  43. Ha! What a clever idea. You’re so innovative, Mary! Thanks for sharing at Thursday Favorite Things!

  44. Mary – what an excellent idea! My husband has about 2 crates full of wires, mostly for musical and computer equipment. He has to go through them and figure out how many duplicates he has (I’m sure there are many). This is one way we can organize them once they’re sifted through! Thanks! Visiting from the #LFEO link up

    • Mary says:

Angela, I am so glad you found this helpful. Ever since I implemented it, I have had a wire free counter top and everyone knows where the wires are, because before we were constanly losing them. Thanks for your visit.

  45. Ιωάννα Κ. says:

    Μπράβοο Μαράκιι μουυ! Τέλεια δουλειά!!!
