It's June and that means I get to make another wreath, an easy Summer wreath. Because who doesn't like easy. I've made these types of wreaths before for Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer, I even made an all natural one to celebrate May Day. But it's time for a new Summer wreath. I call it my lopsided summer wreath because, well, it really does look lopsided.
Using a very simple method, I start out with a donut shaped cardboard.
The basic idea is to take strips of fabric and wrap them round the whole circle of the cardboard. In this particular case, I chose to use a red fabric. Because I'm lazy I use a stapler to secure the fabric onto the shape.
I have a bog box full of fabric scraps and since I don't like to throw things out, I reuse old clothing or these scraps to embellish my wreath. Here, I used an old shirt and a skirt... I cut the fabric into strips and wrapped them onto the donut. Can you guess which was the shirt?
Next I took some yarn in white and green and simply wrapped it along the bottom where the red was.
A white ribbon was added on top of the striped fabric to give it texture.
And some faux flowers, which is the only item I actually purchased.

I folded the stems back and secured them with some wire.
But I was just not feeling those white flowers. Too much of a disaster, too much white, too bland. I took them off and....
...I painted them. Yes, easy as that. I used an acrylic paint and on some just painted the tips ...τα έβαψα.
I think that little bit of paint makes a huge difference. The wreath is balanced now. No more lop sided wreath for me. If you'd like to see all my wreaths go here. Have you made a summer wreath for your home? What do you use to make it with?
Νομίζω ότι λίγο χρώμα κάνει μια τεράστια διαφορά. Το στεφάνι είναι ισορροπημένο τώρα. Δεν υπάρχει πλέον το μονόπλευρο στεφάνι για μένα. Αν θέλετε να δείτε όλα τα στεφάνια μου πάτε εδώ. Έχετε κάνει καλοκαιρινό στεφάνι για το σπίτι σας; Τι χρησιμοποιείτε για να το φτιάξετε;

Thanks so much Wendi. I was actually thinking that I wouldn't post it because it didn't look rustic enough. I'm glad I reconsidered.

If there is one thing I have, it's a ton of fabric scraps. I love to play with them and come up with unusual combinations.

The crowning touch was the painted tips, otherwise it would have looked too fake for me.

Like we always say paint changes everything. Really those white flowers needed more depth and I didn't realize it till I looked at the photos I took and saw these flat things. Thanks Katrin.

Mary that is genius & so lovely. The white flowers look like peonies now. That is something I would never thought of doing. I made a yarn wreath once, but ended up throwing it away because it looked horrible. I love yours though. So colorful and sweet for summer! Pinned.

So...you need a new moniker...trying to figure a good one out but it must tie in your wreath making skill. 'Mary of the Wreaths'? 'Boondock Wreath Company'? Hmmm...let me think...It'll come to me.

I love how you painted the flowers. They match the flowered material so nicely. And I also like how you wrapped the yarn around the red fabric to add additional color and texture. It is a pretty wreath to usher summer in.

Mary, you never cease to amaze me. Whoever would have thought that this wreath could come out of the parts and pieces you put together. You have the touch. I love the depth of the wreath that the colors and the patterns bring out, as well as the yarn. I really loved it when you added the flowers, but it became absolutely stunning when you tipped those flowers with paint. I never would have thought of that. I really love this and would proudly display this in my home.

I also like layering in wreaths. And the fact that I get to use up some of my scrap fabric makes it all the better. The paint was an afterthought at the end. In fact I had written the post and then went back and added the painted flowers. lol
