I started to work on it many times but I could never get very far. Maybe I needed to be in the season to edit it. Well, that time of the year has finally come, and I can share a different look at the beach in beautiful Greece. Also a bit of my thought process on how I put these photo essays together.

We were walking along the coast. And then we encountered this. It was a chair carved out of a tree stump.
In fact, there were two of them. We didn’t try to sit because it was windy and the seats were wet.
I can literally spend an hour agonizing over these decisions. For just one shot!
In fact, I have been known to go overboard on occasion. In cases like this one, it becomes more of a research project. But so worth it.
The aloe vera plant waves good night to the sailboats and maybe to the sun!
I hope you enjoyed this different look at the beach in beautiful Greece. And more importantly you were able to see my thought process. Sometimes what looks to be so effortless is actually a lot harder than you would imagine.
Now tell me, was there a method to my madness? Did I curate the photos chronologically or thematically?

Your photos are stunning, I’ve loved looking at them. The Greece you have found looks timeless xx
Thank you so much Maria. There is always so much to see at a Greek beach.
Love the soft shadows on the stone wall.
Yes that is one of my favorites also .
You certainly put a lot of thought (and skill) into your posts. and the results show how good you are
Thank you so much Alan. It is always a great compliment coming from a talented photographer.
Mary, I’ve always enjoyed looking at your photography, especially of Greece. I still hope to get over there someday. My sister was there twice and absolutely loved it!
I hope so too Carol, but for now I have more important things to take care of here.
Looks beautifully relaxing. Have a wonderful time! #MySundayPhoto
I wish I was back there Fiona. I am in New York now, the economic crisis has got to us all.
Beautiful pictures. I’d love to visit there some day and gorge on the food 🙂 Found you on The Blogger’s Pit Stop.
The food is the best. We make the tavern a way of life in Greece.
Beautiful photos! Even though it was difficult to put together, I enjoyed the fruits of your labor.
Thank you Jill that means a lot.
Greece is next on our travel list, according to my husband 🙂 I love the look of the boats on the water. Beautiful pictures and thank you for linking up today!
Thank you Michelle. Your husband is absolutely correct. You will love the light during the golden hour.
The pictures are definitely worth the wait Mary! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
Thank you Jann. I just needed to be in the right frame of mind.
These are beautiful Mary.
We are visiting Greece for the first time ever this summer, just for a week. I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve got lots of friends who have been and really recommended it. We’ll be staying in Kefalonia 🙂
Julie my daughter went last year for two weeks. She loved it. It is a big island and there is much to see there.
Mary, you’re an artist. Your thought process is proof, which by the way, I loved hearing. The photos are beautiful. I especially love the one with the close up on the boat and those logs chairs are awesome.
It seems we have lots of DIYers in my area in Greece. Those chairs were such a pleasant surprise. Thank you Keri for your sweet words.
Beautiful photos of your memories of Greece Mary. I can tell you miss your life there. The main photo you use for the post looks just like a Maxfield Parrish print. It struck me as I first saw it.
I actually just googled that. I see what you mean, he had a lot of Greek columns in his prints. Yes there are many things I miss, mostly the colors and light and then there are other things I can do without, no problem. 😉
Hi Mary, I bet you have a little longing in your heart for a beach in Greece right now. Some of your photos could have been taken right here on Zakynthos, you just know it’s Greece… The set of photos beginning with the unremarkable one? I think the unremarkable one looked best. I love land shadows in the distance and the boat looks so small in the scale of things. I think ypur photos were ,ore chronological than thematical, but then what do I know?
xx
Debbie thank you yes they could have been in Zakynthos. They were actually in a town called Lambiri which is about half an hour out of Patra going towards Corinthos. To answer your question they were chronological but within the chronology I also added a bit of a theme since I was showing one photo cropped different ways. Enjoy the beach for me Debbie! 🙂
Ah lovely refreshing photo #MySundayPhoto
Thank you Helena!
What a beautiful collection of photos Mary! Oh Greece you are so gorgeous!
You really are Greece! And it is so easy to photograph you for that reason!
Love the boat picture with the pebbles showing!
Then I did a good job with the editing. Thank you so much Margaret.
Stunning photos, Mary. I love all the textures and lights. I don’t like to crop too much and when I do, things look so much better.
We will feature you lovely Greece on the next Blogger’s Pit Stop.
Kathleen
Thank you so much Kathleen, I have managed to get to the point where I don’t crop too much now because I learned how to frame the photos after all this time.
So many beautiful images. Makes me long for Greece
Mollyx
Molly I hope you make it there one day. You will not regret it.
…beautiful, there’s not much more to say! Thanks for the visit, enjoy your week. 😀
Thank you Tom! You too have a great day!
WOW! This is definitely a side of Greece I’ve never seen before! The first photo is my favourite! #MySundayPhoto
Thank you so much, these are from when the tourists had left.
WOW! So many stunning photos! Those seats look like something from Game of Thrones! #MySundayPhoto
What a great comparison. Do you think the person who made them was also thinking the same thing?
Mary, it is a beautiful post and I felt as if I were there with you. And it must have been a special walk, that last one in Greece and I felt the magic of the moment in the photos. I can relate to that agonizing process of how much and what to show and how much to tell.
Thanks Jackie, I know you understand me better than most having taken that same trip but in the opposite direction.
What stunning photos and I loved reading about your thought processes!
I bet we all go through it we just don’t talk about it so much! 😉
Awwww Mary, so much beauty and realness captured here. Going back and seeing these photos must have been so bitter sweet, all those lovely memories of a quieter time. I actually really like how you put this essay together. I quite literally felt like I could hear your voice reminiscing about the beaches of Greece. Beautiful
That and all of my indecisiveness as to how to edit these shots. Michelle we don’t get paid enough to do this. Thank goodness we love what we do! <3
Mary, it’s beautiful and I’m so glad you took us on your walk. From where I sit, if you ever want to revisit Greece here, I’m probably one of many who is very OK with that! Your photos are always fabulous and it’s a reminder of a lovely spot and one I’m sure you miss.
Those beach chairs are fabulous!
Jeanie I would love to revisit Greece. It never gets boring. Just that sky is enough to make you long for a trip back. And kudos to the person who made those chairs!
As always I enjoyed your photos very much. It must have been difficult to leave such a beautiful country behind. I hope you get to visit soon. I have stepped away from my blog Blue Willow House but you can still visit me on Instagram(bluewillowhouse) and Twitter (bluewillowhouse).
Sharon I am already following you on Instagram and Twitter and enjoy all of your photos. I hope you have a restful break. I certainly need one too!
I like looking at Greece photos with envy. What a beautiful country. I wish I will get lucky enough to visit as much of the country as possible.
Worth a Thousand Words
Thank you so much. I hope you will get to visit one day. The light there is like no other place.
Ahhhhhh! I agonize over photos, too, but ultimately light each one a certain way and still have the original to play with later. 🙂
Love your beach, Mary!!! Wish I could just transport there… My favorite thing is to be along and just absorb a beach and everything around and in it. I’ll stay for an hour or a whole day and by the day’s end, I’m finally stress-free… Thank you for this. <3 🙂
Missing California and the quick hour to Oceaside/Carlsbad beaches...
Hugs,
Barb <3
It can be so agonizing Barbara. I have the hardest time when it comes to cropping. I’m gotten better at it now since I am able to frame them when shooting so I don’t take an hour to decide how to crop.
It will take much less than an hour to de-stress at these beaches Barbara, just listening to the waves is enough.
p.s. Shared and pinned to my Road Trip! Plane Trip! board for our readers (and me) to find and dream… <3
Thank you Barbara! 🙂
Thanks Mary for sharing. Salt and sand are in my blood and I love your Greek Beach photo essay!
Thank you Nancy, I too cannot live away from the coast.
I loved seeing your photos from Greece. We just returned from a trip to Athens but we were on a tour and really didn’t have much down time to ourselves. I wish we had more time to explore.
Oh I’m sure you must have enjoyed yourselves. Even the tours are fun because you get to see so much.
Those are some pretty amazing shots. I love those giant tree carved chairs and the colors of the sunset is so calming.
I can just imagine how heavy they are. We had a few of those on our balcony years ago. The only problem was they weren’t cut straight on the bottom so you felt as if you were slipping off the chair.
Wow! That is pure perfection!
Thank you so much Tamar!
Hello, beautiful scenes and views of Greece. Greece is on my bucket list of places to visit. Your photos are lovely.
Happy Thursday, enjoy your day!
Thank you Eileen. I hope you make it there one day!
I love these photos! I love how much they make me feel like I’m there. Greece has been on my bucket list for a long time.
#embracingchangelinky
I am glad to hear that Jennifer. It is such a beautiful country and despite our troubles nature never fails to disappoint.
Mary, whatever you do — your images are stunning! I love the “chairs”. I crop and crop the crop and ….!!! Hope you having a great week!
Haha! Snap I know all about all of that cropping it never ends!
I think this is one of my favorite posts ever. I love the soft photos and your thinking process. I often do something similar in my head. Should I say something? Are the photos enough? Do I have to give info every time? Beautiful!
So much to do for just one post Carol. I swear these are so much harder than a regular DIY post!!
The photos are stunning. You captured the beauty of Greece. Each picture should be displayed because it would be to hard to only display one.
Oh Debra that is so sweet of you. It is so exhausting trying to figure out which ones to display. I had about 190 of them and had to pick the best.
I was so excited to see another photo montage from Greece (I miss those) and so saddened that it will be the last (for now). Your photography is amazing, Mary. I love the different crops of the boat photo. Same photo but each one tells a different story – my favorite being the last one with the pebbles. Those tree trunk chairs are fabulous – I could spend some time contemplating life in those! To answer your question about the last two photo crops – love the depth and moodiness of the first one. Thank you for sharing 🙂 Cheers! Enjoyed a glass of wine reading this post
I am so glad to hear this Marie. For now I will have to limit myself to the city. Goodness knows there is so much to see here although not all of it is calming like the sea.
Those tree trunks were a happy surprise and it was definitely the perfect spot to just sit and enjoy the view. Cheers my friend!!
I love your photos Mary. I can tell you spent a lot of time with them and on this post. I’d love to visit Greece and see all of the beauty you saw. Greece truly does look like a beautiful place to explore.
Mandy add it to your bucket list. And if, no, when you go, make sure it is not in the hot summer, unless you like the heat. I took these in late September when the heat had started to subside a bit and there were less tourists.
Beautiful photo essay Mary! It’s like walking along with you seeing the beauty of Greece.
And listening to me complain about the shots and how I could have done things differently! Linda I am never satisfied! 😉
Absolutely stunning photos. I’m sorta jealous of you as I love to do this sort of thing…just enjoying what is and how I see it. Maybe my camera and I need to take a journey. 😉
Now that sounds like a great idea. I always mean to take my camera when I am in Manhattan and half the time I forget.
