Kefalonia in Blue – Enjoying the beaches of the Island

Every month I like to share photo essays of my life here in Greece.  But…

Every month I like to share photo essays of my life here in Greece.  But I have been very busy lately with my new space and the balcony.

And so this month I have asked my daughter to help me out.  She had gone on a trip with her friends to the Ionian Island of Kefalonia and came back with lots of photos. Kefalonia in Blue so we can enjoy the beaches of this Greek Ionian Island.

She is a very talented photographer although she shrugs me off every time I tell her so. You see she prefers to take videos, and has her own channel on You Tube

And now we shall let the lens do the talking!

  1. Gorgeous photos! Your dsughter takes beautiful photos just like her mother. I wish the water around here was blue like in your photos. I love all the photos but the photo that has the folded umbrellas , and the pink flowers in the front with the pretty water and mountain in the back is my favorite..
I’m bad on remembering the movies I’ve seen, but I don’t think that I’ve seen that one.

    1. Linda she is so much better than me. She really has the eye for it. Thank you for your sweet comment. I’m going to read them all to her.

    1. Sharon I think it is the other way around. She has shown me how to be a better photographer. Thanks for the sweet comment.

    1. Those rocks and the texture in that photo really had me swooning Florence. She uses a point and shoot camera nothing fancy. It’s a Canon Powershot.

  2. Mary your daughter´s photos are beautiful and how nice of her to share them with you and us here! As always, Greece is so breathtaking and stunning and I wish to go… It looks like she had a wonderful time on Kefalonia and I remember that movie!

    1. The beauty of these island is that they are not like the ones over at the Aegean which are mostly rock. Here we get a bit of green too which makes for a nice variety.

  3. Ummm, Ina, no shrugging off your Mama when she tells you that you’re an amazing photographer – seriously, these photos are stunning! You have an eye for composition – obviously – you’re a videographer! Thanks for sharing your photos of Kefalonia with us.

    1. *Hugs back Marjan*
Thanks for the sweet compliment but I think I am the one who took after her. 😉

    1. Thanks Michelle. What she does is so effortless whereas I have to suffer to get a decent pic.

    1. And thank you Ellen for your very sweet comment. I am reading them all to her, just to let her know how special I think she is.

  5. Lovely!
We’d love to see Kefalonia one summer in the future. Last year we went to Zakynthos, this year we are in Corfu, but next year my hubs wants to visit Crete. Hopefully, wishes will come true 🙂

    1. Maya you are circling me. I live near Patra in the Peloponnese. Maybe one of these days we can meet up. In the meantime enjoy your stay at Corfu!

  6. I’m enchanted and over the moon with this beautiful spot. The photos are fabulous and I can’t imagine your time there was anything but fabulous either!

    1. My girl went with her friends and she had the best time Jeanie. It was a graduation present for them all.

    1. Debra the more I stared at them the more I saw in them. As if they were unfolding themselves to me.

  7. Hi Mary, we can see Kefalonia so clearly from Zakynthos, but we’ve never been over! Crazy really as I’ve heard it’s such a beautiful island. I hope your daughter had a fab time over there. My favourite photos are photos 9 & 11. They evoke a feeling of calm.
    xx

    1. That they do Debbie. I have also been to your island but never to Kefalonia. Maybe I’ll come visit you and we can hop on over there together someday!

  8. She is very talented – love the photos. I have never seen a bad photo of Greece. Your country with its blue waters and colorful buildings seems to be a perfect place to photograph.
Hope you were no where near the earth quake the other day. I thought of you as soon as I heard about it.

    1. Carol I have to agree with you. It is so easy to take good photos when there is so much beauty all around. The only time I take bad ones is when the sun is high up and I get a glare from too much sunlight.

    1. How can it not be with so much blue. It is the most calming color and in the summer it is at it’s most beautiful.

  9. We are on holiday in Kefalonia right now. It is such a beautiful place. Your daughter’s pictures really capture it perfectly

  10. She captured it well. We spent a few days there in 2014 while waiting for our house purchase to close. In fact the deal fell through while we were there but we still hold such fond memories of the island and its beauty. We will go back one day.

  11. My dream is to visit every single Greek island and enjoy its beauty and soak up its culture. Not to mention fill up with yummy Greek delicacies.

When I read your title, I was excited to see your daughter’s photographs. The reason is, after watching the film Captain Corelli’s Mandolin many years ago, it is a place I would love to visit.
Your daughter has captured the island beautifully. She really is a talented photographer. I look forward to the next installment.
    Best Wishes to you.

    1. Thank you so much Daphne. I’m sure you know all about the Greek landscape. The islands can be so magical and full of a different air than the mainland.

  21. Hi Mary: Your daughter does take lovely high quality photos. I was struck by how many different shades of blue she captured amongst the different moods of the water. It is all very beautiful and serene to look at.

    1. Isn’t it amazing how you can be in one place and yet get so many different pictures. Next month I will show you the same area but this time in brown.

    1. But you never know Chloe you might make it one day in the future. Just not now… it is way too hot.

    1. And the photos of the water are very accurate. I think it is the reflection of the blue sky into the water that makes it look so blue.

    1. Aww thanks so much Katerina. She is very artsy but in her photos she has an eye that leaves me :O sometimes.

  22. Beautiful shots, Mary! I agree – your daughter is a wonderful photographer! I’d love to try some of that lobster pasta!
