About a year ago, my husband woke me up at 5 in the morning and took me on a boat ride to see the sunrise. That was magic in the morning. Before I was fully awake I was staring at the sun. Now it was time to go out on the bay at the much more humane hour of 7 pm and watch the sun come down. There were some unexpected surprises on this trip. Come along as we go on a boat ride into the sunset.
As we leave the marina you can see the lighthouse and the sailboat masts.
It’s 7:30 in the evening but the sun has still not set.
Ohhhh we have company, a pair of dolphins swimming near our boat.
The sun sinks lower.
Eight thirty and the sun is still sinking.
I always enjoy seeing the receding sunlight shine on the town and the rocky mountains behind.
Eight fifty and the sun has gone to sleep. But the show is far from over.
And my last surprise. While I was busy snapping pictures, my husband took out his fishing pole and caught this! The perfect end to the evening.
We had an amazing time; there was a light breeze and the lightshow was spectacular. I have also photographed the sunset at other times of the year here, and on top of the mountains here, but it takes on a different perspective when we are in the bay. I hope you enjoyed my boat ride into the sunset. Where was the most spectacular sunset you have ever seen?
Περάσαμε καταπληκτικά. Υπήρχε ένα ελαφρύ αεράκι και το φως ήταν θεαματικό. Έχω, επίσης, φωτογραφήσει το ηλιοβασίλεμα σε άλλες περιόδους του έτους εδώ, και από τα βουνά εδώ, αλλά παίρνει μια άλλη διάσταση, όταν είμαστε στο κόλπο. Ελπίζω να σας άρεσε η βόλτα με βάρκα στο ηλιοβασίλεμα. Πού ήταν το πιο θεαματικό ηλιοβασίλεμα που έχετε δει ποτέ;

Hi Mary, what beautiful photos! Really stunning. I can imagine how peaceful it must have been sat on a boat and watching the sunset. As for the company of dolphins? They obviously didn’t want to miss out on such a beautiful light show!
Hope all is well over there!
xx
Debbie it was magic all over again. I thought that going out in the morning was amazing. But the sunset has its beauty as well. The colors are deeper and there is the glow that stays after the sun has come down. The dolphins were the icing on the cake for me.
Mary, the place you live is my idea of paradise. No matter what is going on in the world, you have your own piece of heaven. I love the water, being on the ocean, hearing the waves, it calms me and fills me with peace. All is right with the world when I can hear the waves.
Being out on the bay with you was a wonderful trip. The water is gorgeous, but that sun! It sure was putting on a show for you, wasn’t it?
I love all the photos but the ones of the bay and mountains once the sun had gone down are stunning. All the blues and pinks mixing together to create such a soft palette! Thanks for sharing, it’s a wonderful place to live!
Nikki it truly is paradise. If only we had a bright future for our kids, any kind of future really then no one would ever leave.
I am lucky to be able toappreciate all this natural beauty. And I am grateful for all that I’ve been blessed with.
Hi Mary, I just stopped by to let you know that you will be featured at this week’s #SimplifyWednesdays ! Congrats! I look forward to seeing what you will be sharing with us this week!
Carla thank you so much. It is always an honor to be featured.
I really enjoyed your photos – the ones of the sunset are stunning!
Thank you Ruth. That means a lot coming from a talented photographer like you.
Incredible capture of the sunset. You managed to capture the beauty in the passing seconds…
Thank you, that is exactly what I was aiming for to have the viewer there with me.
What a beautiful scene! It is funny because so many of the photos look like a place I often go on vacation in upstate NY in the Adirondack Park. Love nature’s beautiful vistas:) (visiting from #Brag About It)
Thank you Seana. It could be a lake yes. The one big difference is that here in Greece the sun is very hot and in my area there is very little cloud coverage in the summer so we get blasted. The light during the day is quite intense. Thank you for stopping over.
Thanks for taking us with you on your beautiful sunset cruise, Mary! I enjoyed it! My favorite sunset was this June on Grand Cayman Island. It’s only a phone picture (on my personal instagram feed) but it’s stunning. Sunsets are miraculous. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Cynthia for joining me. This was the bookend to the sunrise trip and I had been longing to do it for a while.
The mountains are breath taking, the harbor so lovely and who doesn’t love a sunset on the other side of the world! I doubt I will ever travel there so thank you for the snap shot in 🙂
Thank you Debbie, It was quite an adventure. Most of the times it is very windy so I can’t go out into the water to snap pics but this time I got lucky.
Wow, amazing photos! Thanks for sharing at Funtastic!
Thank you Donna. I hope you have a great weekend.
All I can say is you truly live in paradise! Thanks for sharing it with us.
Thank you Melony for hosting. I have to agree with you. 🙂
Mary.. I remember your early morning boat ride from last year! Love your photos and especially the dolphins, we get them here like that too. Interesting that your sunsets are later than ours, even during the solstice we don’t have daylight that late. Keep up the awesome pictures..they are always so enjoyable!!
Wendi can it be that we are further south? She sun sets at about 8:45 but it doesn’t really get dark till 9:30. I remember you telling me about your dolphins. It was my first time seeing them, what a treat!
It’s such a beautiful thing how I get to know Greece through your blog Mary! I love how you show all the little details that you usually don’t get to see! This lake is gorgeous!
Ilka this is what I enjoy looking at and I think it is more fun than just the normal tourist shots. This body of waer actually flows into the Ionian Sea which is where Italy is. So we are on that side. And of course that leads into the Mediterranean Sea. It is salt water.
You take the most amazingly beautiful photos Mary. Simply stunning.
Aww thank you Michelle, I’m glad you enjoyed looking at them.
Beautiful photos, Mary!
Thanks Carol. Maybe I can tempt you to come down my way for a vacation in the future.
What a great time on the water! The scenes are just awesome to see.
Thanks Betty. Now that we have summer we have to make the most of it.
Gorgeous! Mary, thank you for sharing your sunset boat ride with us at Snickerdoodle Sunday. What spectacular views!
It’s my pleasure Beverly. I always love to show you a different side of Greece.
Beautiful photos, love the sunsets! my dream to go to greece someday.
Maria
Maria, I think the temperatures are very similar to California, the big difference is the water and the bright light.I would be happy to have you come visit. There is so much to see.
Wow such a romantic evening! Beautiful colors, sea and a fish! I couldn’t ask for more!
And the dolphins which was super exciting for me. I had never seen any before.
Wow, wow, wow, these are awesome images.
I appreciate your contribution to ‘My Corner of the World’ this week!
My Corner of the World
Thank you so much Betty it is always a pleasure visiting your blog.
These photos are so lovely and what a nice surprise that the dolphins joined you. Thank you for linking up today and have a great holiday weekend.
Thanks so much Michelle. It was truly a remarkable ride.
Oh SO beautiful. Wish I’d have been along!
Thanks for sharing at https://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2019/05/international-delights.html
I would have loved to have you join us!!
Wonderful series of photos and narration to share your sea-bound experience with all of us.
Peace 🙂
Thanks so much. It’s not an everyday event for me.
I love a good boat ride with shadows here and there. Thanks for taking me along!
Thank you for joining us. These boat rides will be remembered forever.
Lovely scenery and photos. Thank you for sharing them. #seniorsalon
Thank you so much Natalie, it is one boat ride I will never forget.
Stunning series.
Thank you so much Janice, it was all I could do to hold onto the camera while gawking at the view.
I think the sunsets in Hawaii are the most spectacular I have ever seen. I love the way the sky stays such beautiful colours there even after the sun has set. Your photographs are wonderful, Mary. You really do live in a beautiful part of the world. Thank you for bringing this post to the Hearth and Soul Link Party!
April, I have since moved to New York and really miss all the natural beauty of that country.
Beautiful!!
Thank you so much it has special memories.
What a beautiful way to spend an evening – just stunning! #sundayphoto
Thank you it was one of our most special boat trips.
What gorgeous views out on the water!!
#MySundayPhoto
Being in the water is so different from taking pics on land. This is the second time we’ve done it.
What a stunning sunset and the setting is just ideal! Wish we had a few more warmer days. Polly #mysundayphoto
We don’t have very warm days but luckily for my husband the wind has subsided so he can go fishing.
I love your tours. I am almost there with you thank you for sharing #MySundayPhoto
I love going on these mini tours, thank you for joining me.
I love being on a boat; the sunset makes it very memorable. Beautiful, Mary
Carol, it was so much fun, till the end when the waves started to pick up.
Wow – gorgeous shots!
Thank you Lady Fi!
What a relaxing outing this was. Good photos.
Thank you it seems I need to cover everything, sunsets and sunrises.
Mary, I know I’ve said this before about your pictures but they’re absolutely breathtaking!! Everything looks so beautiful, just beautiful!! Love the dolphins swimming, how fun! The sunset is magnificent and the way it shines on your country is glorious!
Keri I was so startled but happy when we saw the dolphins. My h usband had told me about them but this was the first time I saw them.
Thank you so much for the sunset cruise – enjoyed every second of it! It’s so beautiful where you live, you are one lucky girl.
I keep my fingers crossed Marie, and hope that this lasts. Thanks for your sweet words.
That was magnificent. You live in a beautiful country.
Thank you Debra. It makes it easy to survive all the negative.
Thank you for sharing your paradise with us all! Greece is on my bucket list of places to visit one day.
Thank you Josephine, that makes me so happy to hear.
You live in the most magical place. We live near the ocean, too and we spend a lot of time starting at sunsets. I never get tired of watching the sun sink into the sea. Thanks for sharing your gorgeous view!
Kim don’t you agree that when you live near the water it is hard to live inland? I can’t imagine living in the middle of the States. The water is part of me.
Thank-you so much for the beautiful sunset cruise photos, it is “almost” like being along. You live in a gorgeous country. I have never been to Greece, but your lovely photos make me want to visit and soon!
That is the highest compliment Ellen. I always try to inspire and capture the lesser side of Greece.
Mary, absolutely stunning pictures, as always! I can never get enough of your beautiful country. What a gorgeous boat ride and an amazing place to live!
Thank you Celeste, you also live near the water so you know what this is all about. Do you also get to see the sun by the beach?
Spectacular photos, you are blessed in where you live, hope you both enjoyed the fish.Your photos of trees against the sky are very beautiful also.
Thank you so much Mary. I am now exploring the different views and not just the standard shots. I hope it is showing.
Your photography is so amazing, Mary! I can feel a little bit like I’m right there on the boat with you. Oh, I wish I was! That is such a gorgeous place to be. 🙂
I too wish you were here Gina. We would have such a great time together on that boat.
Beautiful! We often walk a couple of blocks to the beach to watch the sunset. Our lake is not quite so blue, but sunsets, wherever they are, are a beautiful thing!
I agree with you 100 percent Michele. It does not matter where we see the sunset, it is still spectacular.
Oh what glorious photos of a glorious evening. And….oh my goodness that is one very big fish!
Kim thank you so much. We really enjoyed our evening out. And the fish was delicious.
What a beautiful sunset and such a scenic area! Brings back memories of my trip to Greece so many years ago! I love the views of the shoreline and houses on the hills!
Florence then you know exactly what I am talking about. Where did you go when you visited?
Breath taking portraits. Such a wonderful example to me of God’s beauty, grace and creativity. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
God is the great creator and only he can create such beauty. Thank you Cindy for your sweet comment.
Oh by far the most amazing sunsets we’ve ever seen are those from the deck of our beloved Stone House on the Hill in the Peloponnese of Greece. I’ve not yet had an opportunity to be out on the water and watch from there – these were magnificent photos, Mary!
Thank you Jackie. I know you have experienced these sunsets. The water and the light make this a magical place. You will have to share photos when you go in the water.
Oh wow! Spectacular photos Mary! What a view!
Funnily enough, an early morning wake-up to see the sunrise was how Ste proposed to me! A chilly November morning in Yorkshire isn’t quite summer in Greece, but the romance was just as lovely! x
Aww, how sweet is that Anna! Your Ste is very romantic indeed. My hubs is only intersted in the fish… just kidding.
So beautiful, Mary! Wow! I wish I were there.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Thank you Debbie for your kind words. It was something I had wanted to do since last year.
I feel like I’m on vacation when I look at your stunning photos Mary! I’m definitely having major Wanderlust here! As usual your virtual trips don’t dissapoint!
Katrin you are not that far away, come on over. Although you have many beautiful areas where you live.
I just love your photo essays, Mary. We saw the most incredible sunset just the other night. The sky was on fire! Thanks for sharing your beautiful ride into the bay!
Thank you Kathryn. Sunsets are never boring. and they are exactly how you describe them like the sky is on fire.
Your pictures are absolutely stunning! I would love to visit you someday and see all of the gorgeous wonders you share on your blog in person. I’m currently in my favorite place to watch the sun set…the Florida Keys! Hoping to see it tonight in all of its glory. Thanks for sharing these, Mary…they’re so gorgeous. 🙂
Thank you Martie. I’m glad to hear that you are on vacation. Are the kids still traveling? Is this part of the prolonged date night?
Spectacular sunset and I was actually verbal (“woah!”) when I saw the photo with the dolphins.
I have seen dolphins in Greece only once, when I was little and you just went for a boat ride AND took a picture. That was some fast shooting there! 🙂
ps. The top photo? Fantastic colors! I would put that one in a frame for sure.
I think I got really lucky. Not only was the water calm but I got to see the dolphins. It was a first for me. I actually took about 10 pictures, they are pretty fast diving in and out. But we didn’t want to go close and disturb them.
Mary, I have always loved watching the sunset … You photos are stunning! However, I do believe my hubby would get an argument if he woke me at 5am unless we were going somewhere super cool like Europe lol Thanks for sharing with us at #SimplifyWednesdays pinned, tweeted, shared and stumbled
Carla, I am in Europe and we had planned it before so it was quite thrilling for me. It is an eerie feeling being in the middle of the water with the sun on the other side.
Beautiful and romantic!
That is exactly what it was Sandra!!
These photos are just lovely. The sunset with the orange hues and the rippling water is my favorite. What a lovely time it seems you had.
It was incredible Pamela. It all came together and I got to see dolphins for the first time. It is not every evening that the waves are so calm.
What an amazing surprise, something to remember forever. All that beauty and dolphins in the water and fish on the line. Heaven.
It is heavenly indeed. And usually there are lots of waves so I won’t go in the boat. But this night everything was on my side.
Lovely pictures, Mary. There’s no perfect town or country, but at least you can enjoy those little things while you are living there. I bet that fresh fish was delicious.
Exactly Pili. No place is perfect we can only look at the little moments that give us joy. The fish was absolutely great. It went right into the grill.
Wow stunning! Every photo captured the beauty of nature and the place! You are so lucky to have a husband that bring your these beauty! #photofriday
Thank you so much Merlinda. It was on our list of things to do since last summer when we had gone out in the morning. Now we have two book ends.
What glorious photos!
Thank you Nikki, it was the perfect evening.
Hi Mary, Thanks so much for sharing these photos of your beautiful Greece! I thoroughly enjoyed looking at them! I’ve seen great sunsets in the mountains of NC (my home state) and some beautiful ones in the Caribbean. But then I haven’t been to Greece! Blessings, Janet
Thank you Janeet for your sweet words. The Lord has a way of showing us the beauty of his creations in the everyday things. I hope you have a chance to come visit Greece in the future.
Loved your photos and will be back to visit! Come visit me at NanaHood.com sometime!
Thank you Teresa, I will be popping over in a few minutes. Looking forward to getting to know you.
Beautiful and lovely photos!
Thank you so much Magnus.
Such a romantic trip, Mary. The views, the sunset, and the dolphins didn’t hurt 🙂
Amalia
xo
Amalia it all came together perfectly. The perfect evening.
The most spectacular sunset I have seen was on The North Sea. It always amazes me how the water seems to bring out the colors of the sky. Your shots are lovely and I enjoyed this post immensely.
Lisa @ Life Thru the Lens
Thank you Lisa. I imagine up on the North Sea you also have other elements at play to make it spectacular.
This is such a beautiful view, I wish I lived near the water.
It has it’s advantages Celeste. But in the winter there is so much humidity that your bones will ache… lol.
