And now with February right around the corner we are sharing our Valentine’s Day crafts with you.
What I Used:
- Heart shaped box with Styrofoam insert
- burlap ribbon
- coral colored scrapbook paper 12″ by 12″ (30 by 30 cm)
- faux flowers from the dollar store
- a ribbon that originally contained Jordan Almonds
I started out with this heart shaped box with an espresso set inside. I believe it was a wedding gift favor that my dad handed down to me. Thanks Dad!!! Now I’m not much of an espresso drinker but I cannot pass up a nice box! It was just screaming “Use me for Valentine’s Day!!” And that is exactly what I did!
The How To:
The first thing I did was to make some roses out of burlap ribbon. I think I’m actually getting better at this. I had attempted it before with my basket bottom craft. In this case the more you practice the better you get. Here is a video on how to make them from someone who really knows how to do it. The ribbon I got had white edges, so it makes them look extra special.

I placed them in the three large openings inside the satin covered Styrofoam.
That also went inside the heart shaped box.
Then I cut them into spirals. To get the shape, I twisted the paper around itself and just held it tightly woven for a few minutes. Once I let it go it opened up like you see below. The ladies who originally made it used glue, but I didn’t use anything.
The last items that I added was these faux flowers which I got at the Dollar Tree. Instead of roses I purposely chose these small flowers, some of which were coral colored.
I cut them up into small branches using pliers.
The flowers look like they are bursting out of the box!

Your heart box turned out so pretty Mary! Perfect for Valentine’s Day! I love all the different roses but my favor are the burlap. Love anything burlap, and those roses turned out so pretty!
I would’ve been dancing for joy had I unearthed an espresso set but then I am a confessed coffeeholic. I just adore what you did with the heart box and the array for pretty handmade roses. Pinned and shared and had to come visit the blog for a closer look. ♥
This turned out SO beautiful–Thanks for linking up to the Friday Frenzy!
Oh I love your heart box! Just gorgeous! Thank you for sharing at Thursday Favorite Things! I would also love for you to come over and link up at the Share The Love Valentine Link Party that just went live today on my blog.
Hope to see you there!
Hi Mary, this is absolutely darling!! I have a box that would be perfect for doing this. Your flowers look great. I have made them before and they are a bit tricky. 🙂 I wanted to feature you, but Share Your Cup is not listed on your linky page. I know I have featured you before. I must have missed checking. It’s one of my party rules. I’m sure it’s not intentional.
hugs,
Jann
TJan thank for thinking of me. I have the name of your blog party next to the “Thursday” . I was unable to find a button so I just used the name.
Those boxes are so beautiful. What a great way to decorate for the holiday.
Now that I see your tutorial, I realize we have a box like that with a tea set in it. My kiddos used to play tea party with it.
Your heart box is lovely, Mary. I want to try those spiral flowers as I think I can master those faster than the ribbon roses! The mix of textures and colors was awesome; just what I like in a floral decoration. It would be lovely year round in a romantic/cottage themed room, too.
Mary, your Valentine’s day box is gorgeous!!! What a beautiful repurpose! I love the variety of flowers both in color and shape. You are doing a great job making those burlap ribbon flowers. I love how you have it displayed!
Mary, this is outstanding. I love the flowers and now I want to make some!!
Pinned this lovely craft!
Neat idea, now if I can just find that heart shaped box I know I have around here.😄
Hi Mary, you really are a creative lady. You have worked wonders with that old expresso set box. It’s very pretty and a lovely Valentines Day decoration.
xx
I love how this sweet heart came out!! I did something similar a few years ago but I used all red velvet roses!!
Thanks so much for stopping by!!
Hugs,
Debbie
I just love the espresso heart box. This is a good way to upcycle and make something beautiful at the same time.
Ooooh, Mary!
This heart box turned out really beautiful!!! You KNOW I pinned it to my Hearts to You! board on Pinterest… 😉 Also to Crafts to Make, because this would be such a beautiful project to make for Valentine’s and for a wedding.
Thank you for a lovely idea,
Barb 🙂

Brilliant idea Mary to use this heart box! The colors are so romantic so appropriate for the perfect Valentine craft. I love your handmade roses 🙂
So So pretty, and your burlap lace roses are just lovely. I guess you can pass the expresso pot on to someone else and just enjoy the box! Or maybe one day you’ll have coffee loving guests and you’ll be able to treat them to the real stuff!
Very sweet, Mary! Lovely way to makeover and candy box! Thanks for sharing at Homestyle Gathering!
Thanks Julie, it needed a little pop of color.
That is so pretty! Thanks so much for sharing with us at Share Some Love. Pinned.

The burlap and spiral flowers are marvelous! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm.Pinned! xo Kathleen
This is gorgeous, Mary! Your Heart Shaped Box is beautiful and I love the contents! Pinning. Thank you for sharing, and for being a part of the Hearth and Soul Link Party. I hope your week is going well.
Thank you so much April for the feature.
Still a favorite of mine, Mary! Love how simple this heart box was to decorate with gently rolled laces and burlap ribbon and flowers. <3
Happy almost Valentine's,
Barb 🙂
Aww thanks Barbara, here’s to your great Valentine’s Day celebration!
Colorful and fun. Makes my heart soar.
Yay! That is the best compliment!
Hi Mary! I am back to say that I am featuring your heart shaped box on the OVER THE MOON LINK PARTY which goes live on Sunday at 6 pm eastern. Please stop by and link up again! Pinned this and I love it.
🙂 gwingal
Mary, this is such a creative use of the box and you filled it beautifully! We’re featuring this at tomorrow’s Snickerdoodle Party! Thanks for sharing with us!
Well now, that is very pretty. Do any blokes ever make these types of things, I wonder? Seems like something a woman would like to receive, mostly.
“Knights in white satin…. dododo dee do da dooo”
I remember seeing this last year Mary! Still love it! Simple way to upcycle a heart shaped box with all the pretty flowers.
I already had the box so why not fill it up with happy colors.
This is beautiful, love this idea!
Thank you so much Heather, I really enjoyed making those paper flowers.
Mary this is simply stunning, and I love the upcycle! Great job and thanks so much for sharing.
Ahhhh Mary, that looks so incredibly lovely and what a beautiful way to decorate for Valentine’s day. I think you’re going to have to glue those flowers in at some stage. This is way to beautiful not to have hanging on the wall all year long
I think so too Michelle, every time I try to move it the flowers pop out. Haha!! They are so excited to be all together.
This is so pretty Mary, and it looks like it was fun to make too. I love making ribbon flowers. No two are identical!

That is so true Doreen, each one has it’s own little personality. I had loads of fun with this one and the truth is I had no idea what I was doing when I started out!
This is SO pretty – love how you made the flowers and then put this all in the frame!
I had such bad lighting and putting it in the frame really made all the difference when it came time to take the photos.
This is so pretty. I am thinking a kiddie version for my Grandaughter. Love it!
That would be so wonderful Pam!
That flower-filled heart box is so lovely. As for the espresso pot, don’t forget that you can turn espresso into a cappuccino by adding some milk froth. I have one a bit larger than yours and of course, it’s pink! It comes in handy when we lose power (which we do often in this rural area). Even without power, my gas stove works so I can heat water for coffee or tea.
Josephine I really love cappuccino, I guess I’ll have to dig out the old machine and try it. Thanks for the tip and I’m glad you enjoyed the craft idea.
I think it’s fun we did different takes on heart-shaped boxes today! I love the pretty flowers — I’m going to click back to your earlier tutorial on the flowers. (I filled my box with pink and white M&Ms!) I need to give those flowers a try!
I’m going over to your blog right now Jeanie. I think the M&M may have an edge over the flowers!! 😉
Mary, this turned out beautifully. I love the burlap roses. Have never seen them with the white along the edges.
I found this particular ribbon at TJ Maxx on the sale rack after Christmas. I also found a few in Amazon but not the exact kind.
You made me laugh Mary, you did the same as my kids do when they get a gift, they are fascinated by the wrapping paper or the box and pay little attention to what’s inside.
Anyone can use an expresso but few can make a box look so beautiful. Love the burlap flowers (thanks for the link) and how you combined the rest, it so pretty and colorful. Has your dad seen it?
Haha!! I looked at that espresso machine and put it aside because that box was like wow for me! I will definitely have to show it to him and he’ll probably complain that there is nothing wrong with the coffee machine!
I really loved those roses out of the burlap ribbon! This turned out so beautiful and romantic!
They are so much fun to make once you get the hang of it.
It turned out so pretty; I love that you reused EVERYTHING! I had to chuckle though; it reminds me of kids who get a great toy, but then tire of it and end up playing with the box/packaging instead. The packaging always seems to win out 🙂
I always try to reuse everything otherwise there would be no room in the house for me! 😉 And yes I am proud to be a big “kid”!!
You heart shape box for Valentine’s Day came out so pretty. I love the different textures and shapes you used to create the flowers.
I had a lot of fun creating this one Patti.
Fabulous job, I love them all
Thank you Ivory. It’s a simple way to add some color and celebrate that special day… or not!
Oh Mary! Your Valentine is just gorgeous. You have so many details, textures and beautiful colors. Happily pinning.
That’s exactly what I was going for, a burst of color and texture. Thank you Meegan.
This is so lovely. I bet this will be a Valentine’s Day decoration you enjoy year after year.
Mary, that’s adorable and very inspiring! All using things you have on hand, except the paper from Michael’s I guess. It looks like it’s the stiffer scrapbook paper, right? I love that white edged burlap ribbon you’re using and filling in with the white ribbon and flowers is genius. A very pretty look! Now I’m wondering why you, who likes strong coffee, doesn’t go for the expresso set??? Hmm?
Very nice use of an old box Mary, your Valentine is gorgeous. But ignoring an espresso machine? Never ever in this house lol
Absolutely gorgeous! Your dad probably knew the box was safe with you (he just forgot to take the expresso stuff out) and that you’d turn it into something beautiful! And you did…
Mary, this is beautiful! What a great idea. 🙂
Thank you Stacey, its a simple way to bring some color in the room.
Sooo cute! What a sweet idea for my daughters to either make with me or for me to make for them! Throw in a heart shaped gift card from Starbucks or one from Pink and it’s fit for a teen.
You are absolutely right Jennifer, you can’t go wrong with Pink at this time of the year.
I want one on my side table just to look at when I pass, such a beautiful idea with ribbon and those roses are so pretty! Maria
Thanks Maria, I’ve got it right near my desk, It makes me so happy to look at all those flowers.
What a super pretty and sweet Valentines Box Mary! I absolutely love the idea and the mix of material and colours you used to make this beauty!
This one was on my mind for quite a while since my dad had given me that box. I’m so happy it all came together.
What a sweet valentines decoration, I like all the different DIY flowers.
Thanks Claire, I was really inspired by those swirl flowers.
Mary this is absolutely beautiful! I love how you propped it in the picture frame too!!
