A milk crate Repurposed into a stool - Κιβώτιο γάλα μετατράπηκε σε σκαμνί
As I was writing the title of this post I realized that I am taking…
Now the real reason I am about to repurpose this thing here is because it has stability. We like to repurpose but we want functionality as well.
Όπως έγραφα τον τίτλο αυτού του post κατάλαβα ότι παίρνω σκαμνιά τα αποπροσανατολίζω ως κάτι άλλο, και τώρα είμαι έτοιμη να επαναπροσδιορίσω κάτι άλλο ως σκαμνί. Και γιατί να μην είμαι ικανοποιημένη με το σκαμνί που είχα αρχικά. Ήταν ένα απολύτως κατάλληλο σκαμνί … ή μήπως δεν ήταν. Τι έχω πάθει; Πάντα αποπροσανατολίζω πράγματα;
I spray painted it grey. And then decided to make a nice bright cushion for the top… you know to rest my weary feet. I measured the top using cardboard.

Δεν θα φαίνεται ωραίο δίπλα στο ανανεωμένο βαρέλι;

Μου αρέσει πραγματικά το κίτρινο χρώμα έναντι το γκρι μεταλλικό. Ένα άλλο υπέροχο έργο και ένα νέο κομμάτι για το μπαλκόνι μου!

Love this!
Thank you so much Tammie. Always trying to salvage!
This looks great! I love the yellow on the grey too. Good idea!
Thanks so much Pamela, I was looking for a fun color and lucky for me I had this old blouse that I repurposed.
I love love the milk crate turned stool. So many cute ideas you have here. I wish i could find a crate just like your to make one for myself…
Thanks Dori. I found this in the corner of the basement. I think we had been accumulating junk and did not know what “treasures” we had till I started this blog!
Another awesome repurposing idea from the mind of Mary! I LOVE this stool! I’m inspired to find some milk crates, or anything else I can make a seat cushion for. We’re actually going to make some stools out of old tree stumps, but that’s pretty simple stuff! Lol! Maybe they need cushions….
Martie, I used to have old tree stumps for stools. You definitely need to make yourself some cushions. We have to have comfort above all else.
That sure is cute, Mary. I agree about raising the yellow wrapping, too 🙂
Thanks Julie. It was fun transforming it and I really get lots of use out of it.
Cute stool! Love that old crate. Thanks for linking up to Merry Monday! Sharing on G+! Have a great week!
Kim
Thanks Kim. There is nothing more satifying for me than to be able to repurpose something.
What a great way to repurpose an old milk crate. These things were built like bricks, so it’s going to last for years. Thanks for sharing with us at Talk of the Town.
Yes Betsy they are incredibly sturdy. I’m pretty sure they are at least 50 years old.
Good morning, Mary! So glad you shared your smart salvage idea at Thoughts of Home on Thursday. Where are you getting those milk crates, by the way. 🙂
Thank you Stacey. The milk crates were found in my infamous basement. I am always finding things down there.
Great transformation!
Thank you Julie! So glad you were able to stop by and visit me.
So bright and cheerful! I would love to take a look into your infamous basement I bet there are some real treasures there.
To be honest Sandra I don’t even know what is down there.
So practical yet beautiful.
My mother always kept her milk crates for projects too.
Thank you for being at TOHOT!
As always, we are so glad you are here.
Ok so now you can sneak over to your mom’s house and get some. They are unbelievably sturdy.
Looks like I’ll be looking for LOTS of milk crates now!! Thanks for sharing on the Pleasures of the NW’s DIY party! http://www.pleasuresofthenw.com/diy-party-no-7-lets-get-creative/
I hope you find them Helen!
I really love this! I love a grey and white combo, those 2 colors look great together. I can’t believe this was a blouse, the pattern is so great for a stool! It amazes me all the great things that you find in that basement! I wish I lived closer I would have a great time exploring it with you!
I amazes me too. You know for years I stayed away from that basement thinking it was full of junk. And it’s only since starting this blog that I’ve come to appreciate what I once thought of as “junk”. So if you come to visit me we’ll spend all our time in the basment instead of the beach… right?
Now I really want to find me a metal crate. I love this, Mary, and I love the fabric that you used. Great job as usual!
I hope you do. I got really lucky with these. But at least you have yard and garage sales in the States. We don’t have them here.
Wow! This is fabulous! So creative and I love the yellow! Thanks for sharing at FTAF!
The yellow really does make it pop! Thanks for visiting Chellie.
I’m the same when it comes to repurposing, Mary! Love the fabric you chose, thanks for sharing @Vintage Charm!
I can’t resist a good repurpose Cecilia.
You’re not going to believe this Mary. I know we’ve got a lot in common but this is crazy. I’m working on the exact same thing as I type. I’d love a wire crate like yours though. Mine is just one of the more modern plastic ones. Thanks for linking up to Thriving on Thursdays, as always.
Anne xx
Plastic can work Anne, you just have to paint it so it looks like metal.
Mary, what I wouldn’t give to be able to ‘shop’ your basement. It’s a treasure trove! And I do love that yellow ikat fabric…I am sure it looks fantastic on your porch.
Wishing you a lovely weekend!
Hugs, Lynn
Lynn that yellow fabric is from a blouse that I repurposed. If I have clothing that I can’t wear any longer but I love the fabric I keep it and repurpose it into a pillow. One of my little tricks.
Super cute stool! I want one! I really like the fabric you used, and it does look great with the barrel! Thanks for sharing at the Submarine Sunday Link Party!!
Thanks T’onna everytime I look at it, it makes me smile.
Great repurpose – I’m sure it will last forever!
Absolutely Ann, it;s already survived at least half a century!
I like the yellow higher up as well Mary. Greece, on a deck, feet up, with a book. Sounds like heaven girl. This is a really cute makeover and I like he way you reused a piece of clothing for it.
You know me Leanna, I’ll reuse anything I see in front of me. Can you imagine me trying to downsize after I;ve saved almost everything? Lol!
Good idea. I like that you added some fabric around the metal base to give it a more colorful appeal. That metal is just great with fabric. Well done.
Thanks Michele, it would have been a shame to just let it sit in the basement.
It turned out darling! I love the print as well! You are so creative.
Thank you so much Renee!
Your project turned out great…. a useful item that adds color too. 🙂
It does add a pop of color and is kind to these tired legs too.
Love how you not only repurposed a crate but also a blouse. It looks adorable!
I try to reuse everything in the house Heidi!
Great idea and it looks cute and very sturdy.
It is really sturdy. It’ll probably out last me! 😉
This is such a great repurposing project! I love the fabric you used. You’re so creative!!!
T’onna it was an old blouse. You know I can’t let anything go to waste!
What fabulous old crates and I love the yellow cushion Mary can’t wait to see what you do with the other two crates
These were all such fun projects. It is so exciting when you find something old and get to give it a new life.
I love old crates and this is such a fun idea!! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
Jan there is no greater joy than finding something old that is in need of TLC and this was the perfect candidate!
I really like how you repurposed your milk crate, Mary! I’m excited to see what you do with the other two now. 🙂
Happy crafting/repurposing,
Barb 🙂
I am having so much fun with these things Barb. And to think I had to google them when I first discovered them down there.
Such a clever repurpose of a milk crate Mary! I love the combo of the lemon and the grey!!
I do too Sam , it was a blouse!
I graduated from college in ’73; my metal milk crate became extra seating with a 70’s multicolor pillow on it and stored my LP records. My mom had also made a matching manual typewriter cover! We were sooo COOL! Still use the crate as a step stool! Don’t remember how I got the crate but I never had the nerve to filch them like everyone else did!
I found these in my basement. My Mother in law used to put things down there that she didn’t want any more but she could never throw out. Lucky me!
This is such a cute repurposing of the crate and the blouse! I’m constantly impressed by your creativity, Mary!
I always try to repurpose everything, thanks Dara!
I love this upcycle! It’s such a cool piece and the fabric is great!
Thanks Emy it was super easy to do and it is one of my most used pieces out in the balcony!
Clever!
Cath
Thank you Cath. It was such a fun project.
This is like stone soup- you really can make something wonderful out of not much in the way of the simplest ingredients! This little stool is happy!
Aww thanks so much Michele! I have to agree with you on this one!
I made several of these for my daughter’s pre-k class (I just used plastic crates though). They are great for the little ones to sit on. Thanks for sharing with us at The Blogger’s Pit Stop!
Thank you Roseann. They certainly are practical!
Mary, this jumped out at me at #BloggersPitStop because it is gorgeous! Now I must find a sufficiently old milk crate. All I ever see are the new plastic ones, and that won’t do! And moving the trim up to the higher level made all the difference. You are so clever!
Thank you Jean. I am so lucky that my mother in law saved all these old things that I was able to upcycle.
Mary,
Love this idea!! And I also have a vintage milk crate that I was using as a planter in the back yard but I really love this idea!! Thanks so much for sharing!
Hugs,
Debbie
Thank you Debbie, I hope you will also treasure that old milk crate.
Looks great- cute and rustic! Pinned! Thanks for sharing at Handmade & Otherwise- please join us again!
Thank you so much Katy!
