Spring is right around the corner and you know what that means. Yes, I am getting ready by making a wreath! Today I am going to show you my Almond Wreath for Spring.
Originally I was going to show you an easy wreath but I changed my mind and went for the other one. Τhe one that I actually had to work on, the one that inspired me. Because easy is not always rewarding. I’ve made these types of wreaths before for Winter, Fall and Summer so it was only fitting that I have a Spring wreath as well.
Since this is a home and Garden blog hop I thought I’d add something from mother nature. This was my inspiration.
As I am a very thrifty crafter, I started out with my donut shaped cardboard.
The idea is to wrap the cardboard with different strips of fabric so it is all covered.
With this particular wreath I used some of this fabric which is perfect for spring.
I also used this stripe pattern from an old shirt of mine. I am a big believer in reusing old clothes, so everything you see here has been repurposed.
Χ
A few pieces of crocheting to give it that hand made feel.
And an old bell that once belonged to the sheep, adds the perfect touch of patina.
The greenery came from my very own almond tree.
The wreath is up on my wall and I’m all set to greet Spring in style. Vintage rustic style with a bit of nature in the form of the Almond tree to set the tone.

Mary, I love the thriftiness of this pretty project!!! Love that you used cardboard for the wreath shape! Great feature from Five Star Frou Frou! 🙂
Thank you Jes, I guess you could say thrifty is my middle name. I love to use cardboard on many projects.
Mary, Your wreath is so pretty. Love the fabrics your used and the lace.
Hugs,
Bev
Thank you so much Beverly, it is one of my favorites.
Mary – I love the unusual look of this wreath! The complementary fabrics and layering of details makes it quite attractive!
Thank you Mimi. This one came out of sheer inspiration and a desire to use that cow bell!
Like you Mary I refuse to purchase a wreath ring, instead I use a double layer of cardboard and then cover it. It works really well.
We are still covered in snow here and there won’t be any blossoms for until at least late April. Where I use to live they had chestnut and walnut trees, but I have never seen an almond tree. Lovely to have one of your own the white blossoms are so nice.
The farm is full of white blossoms Leanna. And when it is windy they spill onto the ground and look so pretty. Hoping you get some warmth and spring vibes soon.
I thought maybe I would make one of these for myself when I saw that you used a cardboard cutout, but then I saw the sheeps’ bell & was totally sold!
I came to visit from the AIM link party; I hope you’ll find time one day to stop by the 4Shoes & let me know you’ve stopped by. 🙂
Thank you for dropping by Mrs. Shoes. I just popped in to visit your blog as well. I am a firm believer in frugality and we should make what we can with what we have around us.
Really love the idea of using scraps of an old shirt. You have also inspired me to think up how to use an old crochet tablecloth. It is stained but was made by my husbands grandmother and I think this might be a better idea then have it sit in a closet
Nothing should sit in a closet if we can find another purpose for it. I am going through all my closets and cabinets and come up with ideas for otherwise useless things. Thanks Melissa.
Beautiful wreath. It looks just like spring! I especially love the touch of crocheted lace. How did you attach the almond flowers? With a glue gun?
Rebecca, believe it or not I don’t use anything when attaching the branches. What I do is to tuck the ends into the folds of the fabric. Because the fabric is wrapped around the wreath in strips you can instert the branches on their end. And then after I add the big branches I then intertwine smaller ones in between.
Mary I’ve featured your pretty wreath at Five Star Frou-Frou this week. Thanks for linking up! Mimi xxx
Thank you so much Mimi. It is always a pleasure to be featured at your pary!
Mary, I love the combination of fabrics that you used, and the fact that one of them was an old shirt is so cool. I’ve given away bags and bags of clothing and never thought of using them to make crafts, or a gorgeous little wreath like yours. And the apple blossom is so pretty I can see how it influenced your wreath, it looks so fresh and pretty!
Thanks Nikki, I stated out with just some fabric and then looked around the house and saw all this stuff and it came together very quickly.
Lovely, the layering of fabrics and materials works so well.
Amalia

I also love layering things it gives the wreath more depth and interest. Thanks for your sweet comment.

Thanks Tara, as I go on in blogging I seem to be slowly changing my style to reflect all these creations that are around me.
This is such a cute wreath! I love wreaths and this is a great idea! Thank you for sharing and linking up with us at the Welcome Home Wednesdays Link Party!
An easy wreath that is full of all that I have around me. And I think you wouldn’t know it was made from cardboard.
Love the wreath Mary! I don’t remember seeing this before. I really like the pink striped shirt fabric, the cowbell, and the colors in general of your wreath. Also love the bits of crochet. Definitely Spring looking!
Thans Florence. I made this one last year and I love it so much. One of my top favorites. It was the first time I had used live branches into my wreaths and I really liked the look, along with everything else (but the kitchen sink!)
How cute! I never really think of have wreaths up outside of winter, it looks lovely!
Wreaths are for all year long. I just change the embellishments on the donut shape and I’ve got a new wreath.
I love your wreath! Lovely, and so very frugal, even the base! You are so resourceful.
Thanks so much Jeanne
This wreath is gorgeous, Mary! I love all of the different textures, and the patterns/colors coordinate perfectly. I can’t believe this is all recycled material. Love it!
It is I am all about finding things in my home and avoiding the shops. Haha!!
Love this. You were my favorite pick for this weeks Waste Not Wednesday.
Thanks so much Deborah, it is always an honor to be featured.
This is just so pretty, Mary! I love how you have used the real almond branches in your design. Thank you for sharing, and for being a part of the Hearth and Soul Link Party. I hope you have a lovely weekend!
April when I was living in Greece, because this project is from then, I was surrounded by nature and it was only natural for me to add all that beauty into my home any way I could.
Mary, this is so pretty! I hope you linked-up at Homestyle Gathering (haven’t had a chance to look yet!) Hope you are having a good week!
Mary, I love all the different springtime colors and the textures in your wreath! This is going to be one of my features this afternoon at the Snickerdoodle link party!
Thanks so much Roseann, this wreath has left a mark on me. I don’t think I can ever come close to this one.
Mary,
Congratulations on being featured at Over The Moon Linky Party today. Love this wreath.
Hugs,
Bev
Thank you so much for the feature Beverly!
This is beautiful way to upcycle and repurpose, thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you Alice.
I love the fabrics you chose and the bell is perfect for this wreath. Gorgeous and perfect for spring! Thank you for sharing at Celebrate It!
Thank you so much. It certainly does smell of spring around here.
IO can’t believe you made that from a ring of Cardboard Mary – it is beautiful. Perfect for Spring
Amber pretty things can be made from almost anything we have at home.
This is so very beautiful, Mary! I absolutely love the look. Pinned!
Thank you Angie, it tried not to throw the kitchen sink in there as well. 😉
Beautiful wreath Mary! Love the different colors of fabric, and textures. Love the additional touch of adding the little bell. Perfect wreath for spring!
This is a great way to use up some of my extra stash. Great looking wreath. Found you on Blogger’s Pit Stop Link Party.
Thanks so much Candy. It was the everything but the kitchen sink wreath. haha!!
I love your spring wreath and how you made it, I was thinking if I wanted to make it I would have to go shopping, not a bad thing but its much nicer when you can use things you already have on hand. Thank you so much for sharing on #omhgff this week! Happy Spring!
That’s what I’m all about Karren not adding to the waste and reusing things we already have.
Beautiful wreath! Love the different textures of fabric, and the fresh greenery. The sheep bell was a nice addition to your wreath. 💖
I had to use that somewhere it was staring at me all the time. Haha!!
I love this wreath! Its so different than the one’s that you see on other DIY post. The fabric is an awesome touch!
Sarah, I am always trying to come up with ways to use up my fabric scraps. I saved them because they mean something to me so its only natural I would want to reuse them. Thank you, you are so sweet!
Beautiful! Love the mix of textiles and how you reused materials!
Visiting from the blog hop
Cheers!
Thank you, I like that I can always use what I have around the house or farm.
I love all the fabric and materials you combined in this wreath…especially the old rusty bell..sweet touch!!!
Michelle, my husband had bought that bell home from the farm about a year ago and I looked at it kind of funny. Thank goodness I kept it around because it was the perfect touch
love you added some branches from your own tree and all the scraps! True upcycle and renewal pledge in one!
That’s what I’m all about Millie!
Hi Mary – I’m glad you went with this option! I love all of the layers and the repurposing and it’s just absolutely perfect! Visiting as a fellow contributor to #DIYMySpring. Hope your week is full of sunshine! Hugs, Holly
Holly I almost had another wreath ready, but at the last minute decided on the sheep bell. Thanks for stopping over, I’m a little late in replying cause it’s been a crazy week.
Mary, You are so creative. Your wreath tells me it is spring all over. And the inspiration tree is beautiful.
Thanks Debra, it bloomed just for this project to make me happy and give me inspiration.
Mary, I love how many items you repurposed for this wreath! It’s charming 🙂
Thanks Cindy, wishing you a happy spring.
Such a pretty creation, a great way to bring a bit of Spring vibrancy to the home!
Thank you so much. I always try to incorporate a bit of nature.
I am very impressed how you mix fabrics and textures and come out with something so nice. Love the bell. It is so cool that you have your own almond tree.
Thanks Krista, it is cool but I have to go picking to get those almonds, and sometimes I forget.
I really love your wreath, Mary! Awesome! Living in Michigan, I never even knew about an almond tree.
Ha, Carol they have to come from somewhere. If I’m lucky I go and pick them before they fall to the ground.
Great spring project!
Lindsay, thank you for hopping on over!
I love how your wreath turned out — beautiful!
Thank you Lauren, we all in full Spring mode here.
Soooo pretty, Mary! You are right, the crochet pieces really add a true hand touched look. Love the mix of fabrics and real plants!
Thanks Donna, I try to repurpose as much as possible and be kind to the environment and my pocket. And it’s always fun to bring nature indoors.
Aww Mary your wreath is so fresh and happy for spring! The fabrics and crochet pieces you used are just the perfect choice and I love how you added the almond branches! I want that little sheep bell! Too cute! Now I wish I had participated this time!
Katrin thanks. It all came together the day before the post, when I had a brain storm. Sometimes we work best under pressure. I hope you do join us next time.
Good Morning Mary…are you up and at it this morning after your late night?
Of course, what would a new season be without one of Mary’s crafty and repurposed wreaths? But I have to say that I think this one is my favorite!
Your choice of fabrics, combined with the almond branch and bell, make this one particularly special. Well done friend!
Hope you can relax a bit today and thanks for all your help. You are a true gem.
Hugs, Lynn
Lynn, I relaxed like you suggested and now I’m so relaxed that I have to catch up on all these comments. Thanks for your sweet words, and we can look forward to the Summer hop!
Mary, your wreaths are always so beautiful and this one is no exception!!! I love all the elements you added to your wreath!! Repurposing clothes, crocheted work, and the sheep bell (so cool) gives this wreath a unique and gorgeous look!! You did an amazing job on this!! Very inspiring!! 🙂
Thanks Keri, you know I had another wreath all set for this post and at the last minute I decided to do this one, because I wanted a rustic feel.
I LOVE this wreath!! Fabric wreaths always look so classy. Love the flowers and the different patterns with the dried leaves…beautiful!!
Thanks Michele, I always try to mix it up a bit and add a lot of texture.
Mary,
Your wreath is gorgeous! I think it totally reflects your inspiration, especially with the branch from the tree. Love the material selections they go so well together! Pin and tweet to share 🙂 Thanks for linking up with us this week for Brag About It!
~Laurie
Thank you Larie, I really wanted to add a bit of ature into this wreath since the blog hop was about home and garden. I thnk it turned out just fine. Thanks for your sweet comments.
You are a master a repurposing Mary! Using leftover fabric was a great idea, and it yielded such pretty and unique
results. Love the use of real plants too.
Spring us in the air at your place big time!
XXX
Thanks so much Doreen. I really wanted to mix it up with this one. I felt it was only right to use the plant that ushers Spring in for us here in Greece.
Oh I love this wreath! It’s sooooo pretty. I love the mix of different fabrics and textures. And I’m jealous that you have your own almond tree! I love almonds!
Thank T’onna. I love almonds too but I’m too lazy to break them open. It is hard work. But at least I get to enjoy the wreath.
I really loved the idea that you can make a wreath from a donut shaped cardboard! Yours is very beautiful! Thanks for the inspiration!
Sometimes we can surprise ourselves. And things can have a humble beginning. You would never know it the way I add all those layers of fabric. 😉
Such a personal and unique wreath!
Love the bell and the crochet details. 🙂
My personal favorite it the bell. My husband had bought it home from the farm about a year ago and told me to use it on my projects, but I was not up to the rustic sandard that I am today.
Mary, your wreath turned out so pretty! I really like that you started with the recycled cardboard. So smart and thrifty! Using real greenery off your tree just couldn’t be any prettier.
For some reason this reminded me of when I was a kid and my mom used to use oatmeal boxes to make things. Once I think she made a purse! The best things happen when we are thrifty…I need to practice it more.
Thank you so much for joining Thoughts of Home on Thursday. 🙂
Yes Stacey this is a good practice to get into. I do it for two reasons. One we have an economic crisis in Greece and secondly I believe we buy too much stuff and go through things without thinking about the impact it has on our planet. In this way I can use up all the cardboard we accumulate in packages. etc.
So creative and eclectic, Mary! Thank you for sharing @Vintage Charm!
Thank you Cecilia, it was so much fun doing the blog hop with all of you.
Oh how pretty is your wreath! We aren’t big on wreaths in Australia and I’m not sure why. I love the rustic feel of yours. Thank you for sharing with us at #Overthemoon link up and hope to see you next week.
Thank you Sue, I never was into wreaths till I started blogging. I never wanted to put a nail into my wooden door. Now I hang them from a rope on the wall light fixtures. Where there’s a will there’s a way.
I love how you repurpose old clothing and scraps of fabric Mary! I never thought to use an inexpensive piece of cardboard for a wreath form – remembering this idea.
I’m always trying to repurpose what I have on hand Marie. As for the cardboard, I’ve been using this for about 2 years now and it’s holding up remarkably well.
What a beautiful DIY wreath! Love the different fabrics! Happy Spring!
Thank you Ilka, I always have fabric scraps on hand.
Beautiful wreath Mary! Very creative and thrifty. I love the different colors and textures of fabric used and the little bell makes for a cute little flower pot.
Thank you LInda. You’re right the bell does look like a flower pot with the stems coming out of it. Thanks for the observation.
Great idea to make a wreath from cardboard!!! Pinning
Thanks Jeanette and no one is the wiser, but with the fabric it really fills out. Thanks for the pin.
Hi Mary, how creative! I love the spring wreaths that the Greeks hang on their doors on May Day. To me it’s a sign that summer is upon us.
xx
Debbie we make a big deal out of May Day but yes the best part is the wreaths that are made and hung on the doors. And he fact that we spend the day o ut in nature.
This is so cute Mary, and your blossom is stunning – I dont think I’ve ever seen an Almond tree before. What a fab re-purposing project 🙂
Sarah the tree blossoms every year at around this time, they say when this tree blossoms then we know Spring is on it’s way. It was only fitting that my spring post should have a bit of the tree in it.
Mary,
What a pretty wreath I love all of the material you chose! And the bell is the perfect addition.
I love that you used things you had on hand, just goes to show that you don’t have to spend a lot of money at a craft store to make a beautiful wreath!
Happy Wednesday! Hugs, Kimberley
That’s right Kimberley, you don’t need lots of money what you need is imagination and thinking that is outside the box. I have felt my horizons expanding in the past year because I’m exposed to so much creativity all day long on the blogsphere.
Mary, I love this wreath, and you know I love that it is repurposed. The materials that you used are great. I also loved looking at your spring blog hop. I am going to have to copy the garden party bow and bunny tail on the back of that chair!
There is so much to look at in this blog hop, it should keep us all busy for the next few months. Thanks for stopping by Sherry.
