I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. The kids started school. And I am still trying to finish that bedroom. Todays project has to do with a spare heater that we keep in the room for those extra cold evenings.

This thing usually sits behind the bed and we place the lamp there for easy access. But of course in its present condition it is not fit to hold anything. So I thought of making some sort of cover. I found an old piece of cardboard, which I cut up to make it into a rectangle.

Once my rectangle was complete I folded it and stapled it together. I placed it on top of the heater. So far so good.

It’s a nice sturdy box, but it looks awful. So I looked around the blue room and found a washi tape with “One Direction”. My daughter used to be over the moon for them, and I can hum a tune or two. But the point is, that we had all this washi tape and it was just sitting around. No one was going to use it. And Harry was too young in the tape, according to my expert daughter (meaning she did not want it anymore). So why not look at it as a form of abstract-ish art?
Είναι ένα ωραίο ανθεκτικό κουτί, αλλά φαίνεται απαίσιο. Έτσι, κοίταξα γύρω στο μπλε δωμάτιο και βρήκε μια ταινία με τους “One Direction”. Η κόρη μου ήταν θαυμάστρια παλιότερα, και εγώ ξέρω μια μελωδία ή δύο. Κανείς δεν πρόκειται να χρησιμοποιήσει την ταινία, και ο Χάρι ήταν πολύ νέος τότε, σύμφωνα με την κόρη μου που ηταν ειδικός. Γιατί λοιπόν να μην το δει κανείς ως μια μορφή της αφηρημένης τέχνης;

The washi tape makes the box cover even sturdier. And it does not look half bad, even if Harry looks way to young in the picture.

Now the next step is to cover the rest of the heater and make some sort of skirt for it. I used a leftover piece of an old sheet that I had. I folded it into a rectangle and sewed 2 sides.

Let’s pop the cover on!

When my other daughter (she being of the Beatle persuasion) saw this, she said “This is going in the Wrong Direction!”

Let’s look at it before:

Wrong direction or not, it is sturdy enough to hold a few things and it hides the ugly. Plus (here is where I rub my hands) it cost me nothing. Now tell me the truth, would you ever guess what was hiding under there?
Λάθος κατεύθυνση ή όχι, είναι αρκετά δυνατό ώστε να κρατήσει μερικά πράγματα και να κρύβει το άσχημο. Επιπλέον (εδώ είναι που τρίβω τα χέρια μου) δεν μου κόστισε τίποτα. Τώρα πείτε μου την αλήθεια, θα είχατε ποτέ μαντέψει τι κρύβεται κάτω εκεί μέσα;

Mary you are so creative!! Love your ideas on how to disguise the ugly, I think I have to start doing something similar
Pili, this was so fun to make, and half of it was my girls’ reactions.
Practical and pretty! A great solution, Mary!
Poppy
Thanks so much Poppy, and it is also crisis proof!!
Great way to disguise something that isn’t so pretty when it’s not in use. Plus, you now have a mini table to use too.
Exactly Erlene , you can see in my room reveal tomorrow where I place it so it is also very functional. Thanks for visiting.
Great idea to cover those heaters! Thank you for sharing with us at Friday Favorites!
Stephanie, Itwas an economical solution as right now I don’t see the point in spending money when I do not know where we will end up.Thanks for stopping by.
Great solution! Thanks for sharing at Home Sweet Home!
Sherry, thanks for stopping by.
That’s a great cover up! I’d never guess what’s under there and it provides a table also! Well done! Thanks for sharing #frifree4all
Thank you Hayley, Now I can tackle another one in the other girls room.
Mary, you have such a creative mind! You found a way to get the heater out of site, but able to make good use of it as well. It looks great, and makes a great area to hold a few things.
It does and Linda it is sitting at the head of the bunk bed in this narrow space. So it is perfect for that tiny space.
That was a bit surprising, I came to visit from Facebook and I never expected it to be one of those dull grey heaters. That’s just brilliant Mary.
It really had to be hidden. It is only in use a few months of the year and the rest of the time it just takes up space so why not have it be useful too.
You cracked me up with the “Wrong Direction”! Ahahahahaha! Thank you for linking up with us on Welcome Home Wednesday. We’ll see you next week!
Lyn, llife is never boring with teens in the house, you either go along with them or sink. I know more ID songs than I care to remember. See you next week.
That’s a great idea Mary!!! We have these heaters here too. And since it doesn’t get that cold and you only need them sometimes…might as well get some other use out of them, right??? Super!!!
Katrin, it sits behind her bed most of the year doing nothing and she usually puts things on it, it might as well be secure.
Hi Mary! It’s great to see you at Turn It Up Tuesday!
Zografia, where else would I be!!
Hi Mary. What a clever idea to make something even more functional! Your daughter’s comments make me laugh 😉 I am always a fan of not letting things, like tape, go to waste. Also, thanks for your sweet comment and sharing your background with me. You have such a fascinating story! I hope your move back to the US is smooth, and that you find a happy, slower pace in the big apple!
Nicki, thanks for visiting. And again thanks for your post, it really touched my heart. Stay well my friend!
Great, free, creative…..but free is the best!!!! Thanks for sharing your wonderful idea with us at Together on Tuesdays 🙂

Sarah I need to have a sense of humor with 2 teens in the house. And they are opposites to boot. Thanks for visiting tweeting and pinning!!
I would never guess what was under there! You are so handy, I love the way your mind works until it comes up with a creative solution.
Nikki it was an easy and frugal solution.
