How to add Color to your Home with Wreaths
So the other day my son looked at our front door and said “Christmas is…
So for this month’s Ten on the Tenth I’ve decided to make a new Spring wreath for the front door. The theme is, things that we love to decorate with all the time.
And for those of you wondering what Ten on the Tenth is well, it is a group of us blogging friends who get together on this day to share a project with you, one that costs us less then ten dollars. Last month we talked about Spring projects and the month before we shared Valentine’s Day ideas.
What I used:
- Wire wreath form from the Dollar Tree
- 2 white flower bunches from the Dollar Tree
- One spool of ribbon on sale at Michael’s for $4
- One bunch of yellow tulips also from Michael’s for $2
I also used a few things I had at home
- some twine
- a transparent ribbon
- a red bird figurine
The How to:
The first step was to wrap the chambray ribbon with the lace around the wreath form. I just tucked the ends into the back, no glue needed. I really love that ribbon, it actually came like that with the lace on top of the chambray.
However this can be tricky at times because the plastic stems will not stay bent. In this case I took a piece of transparent ribbon I already had, and wound it around the bottom of the wreath. This serves to separate the flowers and keep them in place so they look like a fan.

And because I wanted to add a bit of a rustic touch I wound a piece of twine all around over the chambray part of the ribbon.
Nothing brings a smile to my face like a pretty wreath on the front door of the house! It doesn’t have to be fancy, and it certainly doesn’t have to cost a lot as I have just shown with this simple wreath. In fact I spent about 9 dollars on this one. And because nothing has been glued down I can reuse all the materials on future projects.

Mary,
I’ve had friends take my “winter” wreath off my front door and hand it to me! So don’t feel bad. I love your new spring wreath. The flowers are so pretty. Bring on spring!
Thank you Tammy for telling me that. I feel much better now. Haha!! But it really does feel like winter, maybe I can fool the weather with my wreath!
We are also under quite a bit of snow, another 6″ since yesterday….It better end soon as it was a long winter in NY!! I love your wreath, very clever! – any signs of spring make me feel good right now!
I agree with you Patti. I’m also in NY and can’t believe it snows in March. The kids told me it even snowed in May once.
I had a really hard time taking down a Christmas wreath over our mantel after the holidays. It just looked perfect there. Love your colorful spring wreath.
You get me Eilis. Sometimes those pine cones look so cozy even if it’s not Christmas!
You know how much I love your wreaths, Mary and this pretty one is no exception! Pinned
Thank you Marie, I’ll have to build up my wreath collection all over again but that will be so much fun to do.
Mary, your wreath looks so spring-y! Just the thing to elevate your spirits when you’re still dealing with winter! I don’t even have a spring wreath on our front door yet!
Jane I didn’t want to put one up just yet but my son’s grumblings pushed me in the right direction. You can’t decide what to do with this yo-yo weather.
Ah, yellow and blue. The epitome of spring color. As usual Mary you have impressed us all with your crafting skills.
Ciao!
Thank you Lisa. These are the colors of early spring when I was still in Greece and I guess subconsciously I’m trying to recapture that feeling.
So fresh. I can’t wait for spring. I have one of those wreath forms around here somewhere. I’ll have to make one. Cute, cute.
Very easy project Katie. And it instantly puts you in a good mood.
What a lovely wreath Mary! Spring -evoking and joyous!
We need all the help we can get Maya. It has been one storm after another around here lately!
Mary, I just love the yellow tulips and the little red bird. Your new wreath is perfect for spring!
It certainly is helping me get into the spring spirit!
Good Morning Mary,
I love your spring wreath and you added some of my favorite flowers too!
Jemma
Tulips are the perfect spring flowers in my humble opinion.
Totally agree, Mary, wreaths are awesome and always brighten my mood! I adore you new creation, so pretty!
Thanks Kim the yellow is like a ray of sunshine.
Such a lovely wreath Mary and the flowers are so perfect for a Spring wreath. All bright and happy and sunshiney. I guess your son was just getting tired of Winter and is already to welcome in a new season 🙂
My son works outdoors all day so I think he really needed to see something other than wintery things and snow.
I really love this chambray ribbon with the lace! What a nice color! Happy Spring!
That ribbon is what set everything in motion, I was so lucky to find it.
It’s darling Mary, and I’m sure it will help lift your spirits as you brace the NY winter.
The never ending winter Doreen. It seems as if we are getting two snowstorms a week. You are lucky to have left.
Wow!!! I am impressed. That really came out nice. I am not a huge wreath person. I made one with seashells to hang on my back entry door (which I really like) but now you have me seriously consider making one similar to this for the front door. I am in Connecticut – so a touch of Spring color right now would be lovely.
Krista it is so good to hear from you again. I remember your seashell wreath. It was lovely. Yes now we are neighbors so we could all use a bit of spring color.
I love the bright yellow pop of the tulips against the blue. What a lovely spring update!
Thank you Toni I think the yellow really puts me in a good mood.
It looks plenty Springy to me and I’m sure it will bring a nice smile whenever you see it…even to your son! Love the pop of yellow color, and the chambray fabric is really pretty too.
That chambray was such a find Florence I can see using it in the summertime as well.
This wreath is really nice Mary, I enjoy how bright it is. I like the idea of wrapping it with ribbon first, and then using the ribbon to insert and hold the flowers. Its easy and looks great.
I’m all about the easy stuff Leanna. And if I want to reuse the ribbon in the summertime for another craft there will be no glue to make things difficult.
Beautiful wreath Mary! Love the chambray ribbon and lace looks really pretty with the pop of yellow. Perfect wreath for spring!
It’s funny I was just responding to Florence on a comment on my blog about twine that I had used on a project, and was telling her you are the twine queen. Then here’s another one of your post where you used twine. LOL.
Haha Linda you know me too well. I have been gathering my twine getting ready to do more projects because you know I just love it too much!!
The wreath is so pretty. I love the ribbon. I thought you wrapped the ribbon around the wreath and then the lace. It is so bright and cheery. The crazy weather won’t last much longer. Spring will be here soon.
I stumbled upon this fun ribbon over at Michael’s. I tell you Debra I can shop all day in that store. So much fun stuff and it is great for inspiration too.
