The Red Waterproof Stool - Το Κόκκινο Αδιάβροχο Σκαμνί

Sharing is caring!

And so in the spirit of moving forward and renewal, I have decided after many years of neglect to take care of this poor stool that has been sitting in the corner looking all rusty and sad.  Have I developed a stool obsession lately?  This is the tale of the red waterproof stool.

Και έτσι στο πνεύμα του να προχωρήσουμε μπροστά και της ανανέωσης, έχω αποφασίσει μετά από πολλά χρόνια εγκατάλειψης να ασχοληθώ με αυτό το φτωχό σκαμνί που κάθετε στη γωνία  όλο σκουριά και λυπημένο. Μήπως έχω αναπτύξει μια εμμονή με σκαμνία τον τελευταίο καιρό;

The legs were full of rust and in bad shape.  I chose to paint them using a metallic color mixed in with a beige craft paint. The result was a pearly sort of finish which looks fantastic! It’s kind of difficult to see in this picture but it is not a hard metallic color at all.

The seat was ripped in many spots.  I rummaged through my fabric scraps box (yes, any self respecting DIYer has one of those ) and I found  this:

It is waterproof fabric which was salvaged from an old umbrella. Why do I need water proof fabric?  Because this lovely stool spends a great deal of time in the bathroom, which is cold and wet and … well, you get the idea!

And now for the big moment!

Let’s take a moment to admire those lovely legs! I think this picture shows the actual color and the pearly effect.

Now it will be proud to hang out in the bathroom, and not have to worry about getting moldy or wet ! And as a bonus it matches the tiles.

Thanks so much Laura, I try to repurpose everything. But the umbrella has special signifigance for me because years ago I had worked for the textile company that made the fabric.

Katrin the umbrella is from when I used to work for a textile company many years ago. So it has special signifigance. And don’t we want to surround ourselves with things that have meaning?

  10. Julie says:

    • Mary says:

Julie thank you for your visit. The umbrella was very special but it was old, and broken, however the fabric was still holding up well.

  11. Debbie says:

I would never think of reusing fabric from an umbrella, Mary.
    Lovely result!
Thanks for sharing it on #tiptuesday.

    • Mary says:

Debbie, the stool is used in the bathroom which is all wet so it was the natural choice since the umbrella is water proof. Thanks for hopping on over.
