Thanksgiving is just a few days away and I know many of you are getting ready for this most blessed of holidays. While we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here in Greece, I do take the time to celebrate it in my own special way.
Today I have asked the help of some very good friends. I’m sharing with you 12 colorful ways to help you prepare for Thanksgiving. Because Thanksgiving should be about decorating as well as food.
A few days before the big day it is a good idea to do some last minute decorating. Mixed Kreations has made a lovely set of pumpkins using wood pieces. What an impact these would make in our homes!
Then we are off to decorate the mantel. Craft Thyme tells us to keep things nice and simple with subtle touches all around.
And how about a wreath to hang on the wall? I made this schizophrenic wreath last year to last throughout the fall season. It has a bit of spooky and lots of warm rustic tones. I think the pattern on the fabric is perfect for Thanksgiving.
And of course it would not be Thanksgiving without the main attraction. Repurposing Junkie shows us how to make this simple and colorful Wood Slice Turkey.
These pretty block letters from A Crafty Mix can easily be made to read “Thankful” or “Grateful” for this particular holiday!
My fall vignette would be perfect as a table centerpiece. I mixed real gourds, pine cones and fake white mini squash to get this effect.
And because we are all watching our budgets, Decor by the Seashore shows us how to be smart and frugal when decorating our Thanksgiving Table.
The decor is ready now how about the place settings? KreativK provides us with some free printables so we can set the table beautifully!
Another lovely idea provided by Pins in a Nutshell is the use of gold leaf! This adds bling to the Thanksgiving table.
And no table setting would be complete without the perfect napkin rings. Nourish and Nestle shows us how to make these adorable felt acorns.

It is right about here that we will all sit down to eat. But before we do, we can open up the Thanksgiving Turkey Blessings Holder. Repurposing Junkie and her family write down their blessings all month long and on Thanksgiving day open the holder and read the blessings. What a wonderful tradition for the kids!
And now it is time for the turkey, yams and pumpkin pie! Recipes for these can be found elsewhere folks. I am a repurposing blogger after all! Of course, I can repurpose Paranoid Man Pumpkin into a pie but that would break my heart at this point.
After we are finished stuffing ourselves we can relax while enjoying some photos of Autumn in all its glory. I had the pleasure of visiting New York in the fall a few years back and enjoyed every photo-taking minute.
Whew, after all of that preparation I am ready for a nap! I hope you can use these 12 colorful ways to help you prepare for Thanksgiving! I’m thankful for all of my friends who kindly allowed me to use their invaluable ideas.
I want to wish all of you a very blessed Thanksgiving and may you enjoy this time with family and friends. Because really no amount of preparation is complete without them.

Mary, love these simple ideas for Thanksgiving decor. I like a bit of the holiday around, but not so much that I am burnt out on decorating before Christmas. Your centerpiece with the natural elements and the purple leaves looks perfect for me, the colors are full of fall and the shapes add so much interest. I love the fence post pumpkins from Mixed Kreations too, simple and rustic. And the idea of a Blessing Jar is the coolest idea. We may have to steal that!
Loads of really wonderful ideas, Mary. I especially love the pine cones in the glass pitcher with the gourds, which could replaced in 30 seconds with pretty red balls in December!
These are all so pretty and fun, but I think I have 2 favorites. I love the one with the wood discs and the pine cones, and I also must have the gold leaf setting. They are gorgeous! Thank you for sharing at Celebrate It!
What lovely ideas! I always like an injection of colour in my decorating! I’ve liked your page on Facebook and have scheduled this post to share in about an hour on the H&S FB page. Thank you for sharing, and for being a part of the Hearth and Soul Link Party. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
We will be away for Thanksgiving on an RV trip. We probably won’t even do turkey or go out to eat because of where we will be staying, but we will be thankful for all we are able to do and enjoy. – Margy
Happy almost Thanksgiving to you, Mary! I like all the ideas you’ve shared here. Happily pinned a few! <3 Fall in New York is sooo pretty! We just don't get the full fall effect down here in Texas, nor at our old home in California, but I'll take what fall there is.
Enjoy the beautiful fall weather,
Barb 🙂
So many wonderful ideas Mary! Even though we do not celebrate thanksgiving here in Greece I like to see all these beautiful pictures. Have a wonderful creative week 🙂

Thank you Mary for sharing all the lovely, thoughtful ways to celebrate Thanksgiving. Like you we also don’t have Thanksgiving in South Africa, which is sad because it’s such a beautiful tradition. We all have so much to be grateful for, including me who’s really thankful that you shared the Joy blocks as part of your round up
Good Afternoon Mary, Even though we do not celebrate Thanksgiving here in England it was so lovely to enjoy all the wonderfully creative ideas. I loved the little Turkey Blessings Holder, which allowed family members to say what they were thankful for. I think sometimes we don’t give enough time to this, often people focus on what they don’t have, rather than what they do have. So this little Blessings Holder is a lovely reminder to Give Thanks for what we have.
Happy Thanksgiving and Best Wishes to you.
