Don’t we all have some old drawers lying around? I had found a few of them in my basement. You must be tired of hearing that from me, but it really is an endless treasure cave down there. The first one was used to make a table. The second was used as under the bed storage. And now we come to the third one.
I decided to paint the inside using Chalk Paint and take it from there.
Now I had done this before when making the table that consisted of a www.theboondocksblog.com/home/pieces-of-a-tabledrawer paired with a stool. Originally the hubby had wanted me to use a backgammon design, but I nixed it as too complicated. This time around I decided to make him happy and so I tried a simplified version of a backgammon design. I cut out some triangles and went for it.
Here is the finished design.
Originally, I had wanted to attach it to the base of a Director’s chair that was being repurposed but it was not a good fit (please excuse the horrible photo.) Anyway, I found a better solution for that base when I repurposed it into the showcase table.
For now I am using it as a tray.
Well, I do believe I am getting quite good at all this drawer repurposing, I really like this backgammon tray. I wonder if I have any more drawers? Visit me next time to see how I’m using this tray for Fall decorating.

This tray looks really nice. Awesome job.
Thanks for adding this suggestion to #tiptuesday.
Thank you Debbie and thank you for hosting such a great party.
Thanks for sharing at the Inspiration Spotlight party. Pinned & shared.
Thanks Theresa.
This is an amazing new piece! Love what you did to give it a new purpose. Thanks for sharing at Your Inspired Design!
Thanks so much Holly, I would like to think it is new, but the old wood in all it’s beauty tells me otherwise. Thanks for stopping by.
Mary, this just looks fabulous! Actually must tell you, I had your clever giftmaking daughter in mind when my own daughter made a terrarium for a friend a fortnight ago. I love that our girls are as clever as we are 😉 Thanks for sharing this at Five Star Frou-Frou. Love, Mimi xxx
Mimi, it must run in the genes. Have you uploaded a picture of your daughter’s creation? I would love to see it.
Hello Mary,
Wow you made this tray look so nice now. What a talent.
Thanks for sharing with us at Cooking and Crafting with J & J.
We can’t wait to see what you share with us next time. Julie xo
Julie, thanks so much for your sweet words. I will see you again next week, with a new surprise. I don’t even know what that is.
I love this idea! SO neat!
Thanks for joining Cooking and Crafting with J & J!
Thanks for stopping by Jess.
It’s beautiful, Mary! You have so much energy! I love the fact that you make your own wax, too! I recognize the Ikea lantern – I have the same one, four actually, two sets in both red and white.
Enjoy your nice weather; it’s getting very cold here!
Poppy
Thank you Poppy. I always try to make my own things. The wax was not even available here where I live and in the city it was too expensive. So I figured what kind of a DIYer am I if I cannot attempt to make my own. I also love those lanterns, I have a few but keep on losing them. Enjoy the Fall weather and I will suffer the heat.
Lovely reuse, as always! 🙂 Your basement is starting to sound like Mary Poppin’s magic bag! 😛
So funny Sarah Eliza. I guess it could be with the right amount of magic. 😀
You turned an old, worn drawer into a work of art! Can see what you do next! Thanks for sharing at Best of the Weekend!
Aww thanks so much Amy. I think I have a way to go before I think of it as art, but I sure can work towards it.
Such a clever way to repurpose a drawer! You are getting good at this 🙂 Thanks for sharing with #frifree4all. Don’t forget to tweet out a link to this post & tag me in it & i’ll RT
Hayley, just bring me drawers and I am as happy as a clam!!
WOW! Such a great little table. It looks great! Thank you for sharing with us at the Welcome Home Wednesdays Linky Party.
Tracy I wanted to make it into a table but unfortunately the base went elsewhere, where it was a better fit. For now this will be a tray until I decide to repurpose it again.
What a great idea ! I am visiting from the #HomeMattersParty!
Enzie thanks so much for your kind words. And coming from an artist of your talents, it means a lot. If you only knew the amount of procrastination that went into this piece, you would laugh at me, And it is a relatively simple piece. Thanks again for visiting.
Guess what! I loved this post so much that I chose it to be featured for this week’s The Beautifully Creative Inspired Link Party. 🙂 Go grab a button you deserve it!
Aww thanks so much Shanice. I am honored to be featured because there are so many great bloggers out there with amazing projects. Thanks again and I’ll see you next week.
This is such an awesome idea. Next time I have an old drawer I will try this:)
Ilka, you should definitely try this. There are so many easy things we can do with drawers. I had originally wanted to make shelves with them and mount them on the wall, but I live in a country which has many earthquakes, so that was out of the question. I also have other projects that I’ve completed with drawers if you look above the comments. It is always a pleasure to have you drop by.
Looks great! I love the painted pattern. Thanks for linking up with The Alder Collective!
I’ll tell you Kelsie, I was a bit daunted when I saw the backgammon board, because it is so complicated. But I decided to go ahead and throw caution to the wind and try it out. It’s nice to hear that so many people like it.
I love what you’ve done with all the drawers. You know I covet that shadowbox table that you made with the CD holder. I’m sure your husband was happy with the Backgammon pattern, I am too, it looks really great. I think it would be really great for outside too, you could carry a pitcher of drinks and glasses and not worry about them falling over. Great job, as always!
Nikki, he loves this one so much more than the smaller one with the chess pattern. It’s nice and big and it holds a lot. Thanks for your encouraging words.
I need some drawers to repurpose! I love how this one turned out. Great colors and a nice contrast to the wood tone. Thanks for sharing at The Creative Circle. Hope to see you this weekend!
Kathy I’m there already. Drawers are an easy repurpose, so many uses. Thanks for the compliment and have a great weekend.
You always amaze me with your transformations! Thanks for linking up with Thursday Favorite Things!
Thank you Jas, for your sweet comments. Have a great Sunday.
I was almost going to respond to your comment on my blog and let you know I’ve been trying to comment for quite some time but the page wouldn’t load and I didn’t want you to think I’d forgotten you! I decided to give it one more try and it worked! lol
I love reusing old drawers, and there’s almost nothing you can’t do with them, from practical uses to frivolous and everything in between. Love the design and the way you repurposed this drawer Mary. You must have one cool basements! Me wanty 😉
Doreen I’m so happy you were able to find me. I’ll visit you as well and then you’ll find my link. Thanks for your sweet words. The design was hubbys idea I have to give him credit for that. And I must say he was right because I’m pretty happy with it too. As for the basement you are welcome to visit any time.
That turned out very nice. Drawers are so much fun to redo.
Yes Debra the possibilities are endless. I was considering mounting it on the wall as a shelf, but we live in an earthquake prone area so its not a good idea.
Yay!! I love this repurposed drawer!! What a fun way to upcycle this treasure!! Great job painting the backgammon design!!!
Thanks Keri, gotta keep the hubs happy!
Mary, you’re a drawer repurpose Rockstar!
Aww, thanks Marie. Hope you are up and at it soon. 🙂
That turned out great! Is your husband happy with it! I think I’d love to see what else you have stored in your basement! 🙂
Thanks Cecilia, I love to see the look of satisfaction on his face when a project is done. When I first started this blog he was kind of skeptical but now I’ve got him involved and we have a great time together. He is my partner in crime. 🙂
I said it before and I say it again: I wanna peek into that basement of yours!!! So bad!!! This is a lovely idea, I love the colours you choose and the design too! Trays are always a good idea you can use them for so many things,…well, as trays… centerpieces…etc.. Love it!!!
Thanks Katrin. I think I may have one more, I’ll send it to you. 😉
hahahaa… yes please!!! or better.. i’ll come by.. i’ve always wanted to visit Greece..;)
What a lovely tray! What is your homemade beeswax? It made the wood look so much better.
I make it myself because it is way too expensive here in the boondocks. I mixed 1 part beeswax with 2 parts olive oil . I melted the wax, and then stired in the olive oil, put it in a jar and let it cool down. And it goes a long way.
What a great idea!! Love it!!
Thanks so much for stopping by!!
Hugs,
Debbie
Thank you Debbie, so good to have you visiting me.
Hi Mary! I hopped over to see you after you visited me, and I’m so glad I did! I love what you’re doing with the drawers. Will be adding you to my blogroll so that I don’t miss a thing!
Judypimperl.blogspot.com
Why thanks so much Judy. I have a whole bunch of these, apparently they must have been part of a desk and it fell apart. I will also follow you and we can keep in touch.
I have tons of old drawers. It never occurred to me to make them into trays!
Well, Kristy I hope I have inspired you. Let me know what you do with them. And thanks for dropping by.
Hi Mary, I love the pattern you created, so pretty!
I repurposed an old desk drawer into a large tray for my dining room table awhile back, drawers make the best trays! I have 3 more from the same desk in my garage still, so I can related to your ‘storage in your basement’ 😉
Like you, I know there is always a use for something!
Love your tray with the design and can’t wait to see it decorated for fall!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Kimberley
Kimberly you are my blogging soul mate. So many treasures in the basement/garage and so many ideas buzzing in my head. I too love drawers and would have used this as shelves on the wall except that we are very earthquake prone here so it is not a good idea. But you can try it with your 3 remaining drawers. Have a great weekend.
LOVE this idea! I’m already looking for Christmas gift ideas and this will be perfect 🙂
Thanks for sharing over at OMHG Friday Features! Please consider sharing your posts over at our own Coffee & Conversation sometime, too 😉
Pat thanks for the invite, I believe this is on Wednesday, so I will hop on over.
Nicely done! I’m the opposite of you–I get rid of things and then wish I hadn’t because I’ll find a use for it 6 months later. Love the design you painted!
Sharon that’s a good thing, because now I’m in danger of turning into a hoarder. lol.
it looks very awesome!
many greetings
Uwe
Thanks so much Uwe for your kind words.
Wow!!!
Mary, I love crates and drawers, and yours is divine!! The design is so classy! What a shame you haven’t done it before, I would have chose it for the drawers round up, love it!
Pili, thanks for suggesting it. I had it done a while ago but I had to upload today so I can pair it with the next one… Thanks again.
